Political NPCs

High Judge of Anaxas and noted hater of wicks.

Low Judge of Anaxas; puppet.

King of Anaxas. An ancient man, almost thoroughly insane.

Queen of Anaxas. A well-respected but very sick woman, chosen for her position by former Headmaster Merrin.

  • Hadrian Siordanti

Father of Nauleth Siordanti, a high-ranking politician.

  • Brent Locksme

A short, squat Bastian galdor in his early 40s, with hair that's already gone white but a short, pointy beard that's still black. He holds a patent for a steam locomotive and is working with the city on tentative plans for a system of trains that will tie together the entire nation. He is a clever man, but shallow.

  • George Niccols

The leader of the Society for Passive Equality. A tall man in his early 50s who seems to be rather hesitant on taking any decisive action on part of the Society because of his overbearing wife and daughter.

  • Thomas Dovewitt

Rotund and red faced, he is second in line to lead the SPE. He remains deeply suspicious of the movements of George Niccol's wife and generally treats the SPE like conspiratorial organization.

Resistance NPCs

Male human, unknown age, probably in his early 40s. The leader of the resistance, Serro took over after Marcus Ford was killed. Though he is a rallying figure who has brought more support to the resistance than any other leader, some consider his methods too violent or too severe. He is willing to do whatever it takes to end the oppression of his people.

Female human, ~26 years old. Head assassin for Jon Serro. A skilled and agile killer, she is looked up to by many new recruits as an example of cold professionalism.

Male galdor, ~50 years old, approximate. Works for the resistance as an initiator, "nice guy" and information gatherer. Has unresolved issues with Jon Serro.

  • Oxidus

Male nonmagical, ~35 years old. Gathers information and sells it to the highest bidder, which is currently the resistance. Has a Bastian accent, probably hails from there. Dresses in all black and likes to lurk around the rafters of the Book and Bell.

  • Hortus

A middleman.

  • Nannis

Twenty eight. Resistance member. Very tall. Brown shoulder length and hazel eyes. Human. Usually dressed in black and covers face and hair as not to be recognized in everyday life. Would be more commonly called an 'assasin'. Wears a green wristband from Fion Smith, whom helps her control her anger management issues.

  • Deb

Female human, late teens. Her codename is possibly Serenity, although she almost always goes by the name "Deb". New to the resistance, Deb is competent though unfamiliar with restraint or many of her fellow freedom fighters.

  • Seria

Female wick, ~29 years old. Seria is quite violent when she gets her blood up and she enjoys taking trophies from those she maims. She wasn't always like this but once she discovered a talent for mayhem she embraced it. This upsets her long term partner, Marsh.

  • Marsh

Male human, ~32 years old. Marsh believes in freedom, equality and raising a large family. He likes children and has a peaceful personality that is never quite enough to temper the likes of Seria and Deb. He's out of his depth and he knows it.

  • Mad Casey

Male human, barely 15 years old. He is idealistic and eager for social change, giving him a sometimes fervent and crazed look in his eye when on a mission. He idolizes Jon Serro and thinks he can do no wrong.

  • Fix-You Henderson

Male human, 34 years old. Fix-You ("Jonah" by birth) is a gambler, card-counter and rogue, and holds a grudge like none other. He has a fantastic memory and never forgets a face, making him ideal for acts of revenge. His weapon of choice is a butterfly knife slipped into his sleeve.

  • Polly Steamer

Female human, 28 years old. A dour and sarcastic woman, Polly (under a pseudonym) has quickly risen to the higher ranks of information gathering due to her voracious and unflinchingly brave acts of espionage and deception. She has large ears and is said to be able to hear through walls. Her nickname comes from the common joke that she can parrot back even complex bits of code without a problem.

  • Armand "Nails" Negotie

Male human, 55 years old. A veteran of the resistance, Nails is the first to bring up a potential problem with a plan. His skepticism and calm clear-headed nature in a crisis is an asset to most teams, although his manner gets on a few peoples' nerves. Nails has no patience for incompetence and often gives scathing critiques to younger cadets. Most, however, are fond of him, as he is a good mentor and extremely trustworthy.

  • Granny

Female wick, 69 years old. An old hand that would have retired long ago were it not for her usefulness as a healer. Has a halo of fluffy white hair and tends to make sarcastic comments about everyone now that she's, "too old to care what people think". Her words.

  • Tanner

Young human girl (teen, but younger than Deb; 14-16sh). She's an obvious tom boy; she's short, lanky, with messy brown hair to her ears, hazel eyes, and an up-turned nose. She is often pouty. Tanner has a peculiar skill with anything that requires aiming (bows, slingshots, guns, crossbows, rocks), steady hand, keen eye, and very little patience. She's small enough to conceal herself and often serves as a look-out and/or sniper.

The Book and Bell

The Book and Bell is a tavern that serves as a cover for resistance operations.

Male human, 30. Dark brown hair, blue eyes. A "solid" character - dependable, trustworthy, and surprisingly strong. He runs the tavern with his assistant, Rum Ginny. Recently he indirectly confessed his love for Fion Smith, and her rejection led to his becoming more involved with the resistance.

Female witch, 16. Tall, lanky redhead with pointed bangs, side locks and a leather headband; likes to wear striped bloomers for pants. Very knowledgeable and experienced for her age, as a result of liaising with the resistance and working in a bar. Has a lot of common sense and keeps Stu grounded in reality. Can be immature at times.

  • Phineas Clout

Male human, 26. Tall, skinny, pale and tow-headed. Supposedly sent by the resistance to cover for Solid Stu. Phin is a worthless bartender, and Ginny resents him, but he is patient and relatively friendly. He secretly aspires to be a world-class chef.

Leader of the Seventen.

  • Pinter Lars

Hanz Morde's Second-in-Command, leader of the First Regiment.

  • Ensign Ermanno

Blond-haired initiate; approx. 20 years old. Still has friends who are students in Brunnhold. Has a bad habit of drinking too much before his shifts begin, if not after they end.

  • Detective Inspector Jarvis Thurible

A somewhat sour-tempered,long-faced, ill-mannered Inspector of the plainclothes division. At 52, he has been an Inspector for some considerable time and, owing to his abrasive personality and his own preference, looked likely to remain an Inspector all his life. Thurible is dedicated to his work but has little time for the pomp and splendor of the Seventen, a view he makes known with all his customary gracelessness.

  • Ensign Matthias

Red-headed initiate who seems to always get guard duty with Ermanno. Cheerful, freckled, and generally still a good guy. Approx. 23 years old; has a short attention span.

  • Captain Ciro

Slightly sleasy mid-ranking Seventen; approx. 30-35 years old. Black hair, blue eyes. Has a thing for his rapier and debating uselessly. Also is generally creepy.

  • Detective Inspector Perspicacia "Percy" Grantham

A woman in her middle forties with frizzy, reddish hair and a taste for details, charts, sticking to the facts.

  • Detective Constable Oswald Blakeney

A man of about thirty assigned to the plainclothes division. Generally a pleasant fellow, competent, thorough, and utterly incapable of making a tolerable cup of tea.

  • Constable Lodd

Male galdor, 40s. Tall and redheaded. Quite polite and well-spoken; clearly from top brass breeding.

  • Healer Kross

Male galdor, 50s. Mid-sized man with salt-and-pepper hair and a huge mustache. Field healer for the Seventen.

  • Julian Megiro

Male galdor, mid-30s. Usually tells people he is a constable working with the Royal Guard, but appears to have the rank of Inspector, as well as some very questionable duties. Has a permanently bloodshot left eye.

  • Constable Aerin Alcarin

Female galdor, 28. Sprightly and blonde with round glasses; suspicious of others. She reports to Inspector Megiro.

  • Captain Brinny Pitt

Female galdor with black hair and gold eyes assigned to a desk job because of a leg injury she recently received. Approx. 35-40 years old, she's fair in the way that she treats everyone like she hates them.

  • Constable Fourier

Male galdor with brown hair and a handlebar moustache. He is calm in general although extremely volatile when confronted with those in breach of the law.

  • Ensign Dadton

Female galdor with reddish-brown hair. She's green as well as fairly new to the seventen. She has yet to experience the full realities of her position.

Male galdor, 68. Runs the Sweet Treats candy store in Uptown Court. Thin, tall, slightly frail looking. Thin white hair combed back neatly and a very distinguished maroon and black suit with waistcoat and gold pocketwatch. Thin wire spectacles on the end of his very pointed nose. Stiff backed, very self important. Sniffs a lot. Dislikes children. Haughty old fellow.

Dorhaven Refugees' Camp

  • Sandra

Female human, 28. Brusque but usually helpful. Sandra helped the human population evacuate from Dorhaven and now lives semi-permanently in a camp of refugees.

Miscellaneous

  • Miriam

Female human, 26. The local gossip in Painted Ladies. She is never actually seen but it is known that her husband is cheating on her with the local butcher.

  • The Blue Dragoon

Male galdor, unknown age. The Blue Dragoon was born with the name Frederick Holdings. He always hated his name, so he changed it repeatedly. He tends to go by the name Dren most frequently these days but that will likely last only until he gets bored again. Dren is roughly six feet tall and fairly thinly built. He prefers the status quo because it easy to work with and allows him to affect a sadly jaded manner that is dynamite with the ladies.He currently has black hair, sun-tanned skin and a gentle smile. His eyes are a charming green and his ears are pierced with gold hoop earrings. His attire could best be described as rakish, appearing slapdash although it is not. He could almost be mistaken for a wick at a distance.

  • Esther

Female galdor, 27. Esther is a sweet tempered woman who really doesn't realise that her boyfriend, Lochlan Greensmythe, doesn't care much for her. She's a bit self-centred, though well meaning. Has mousey brown hair and green eyes.

  • Tilly

Female human, ancient. She is the token crazy cat lady in Vienda and often sees it as her duty to impart pedestrians with her wisdom and her cats. There are 15-20 cats with her at all times (sometimes more depending on the amount of kittens any one cat might have while in her care). Tilly is old, but spry, and it is a mystery to most people how she manages to survive. She seems to make a living off of selling the various things she's found on the streets and harassing people into giving her money.

  • Jeffery

A mentally challenged moa with a heart of gold.

  • Portia Niccols

George Niccol's daughter, the Vienda and Brunnhold socialite who has an angelic face but a rather stonelike heart. She takes after her mother, in that way.

  • Quincy Potter

The awkward and perpetually annoyed director of the Permit Office. Also travels to Brunnhold on occasion for part time work when Gertrude, his wife, sends him on his annual leave.
