Sibylla Thelgys
main article: Yellow Pages
Name: Sibylla Thelgys
Age: 21
Race: wick
Place of Origin: : Anaxas – Red Crow Tribe
Backstory
Sibylla’s family came from a very small faction of the Red Crow Tribe that peddled its wares and talents across Anaxas with dwindling success. Her father, Thorsten Thelgys, married young to a pretty girl from another Red Crow faction, Nellenia Paxton. They were delighted to have a daughter, and she was cherished.
All that changed when Nellenia died of a coughing sickness in Sibylla’s seventh year. Thorsten struggled to come to terms with the loss of his wife and the sight of his daughter only reminded him of it. He began to spend increasing amounts of time away from the rest of the group, leaving Sibylla with his aged mother Clea. Clea was the group’s fortune teller, and she began to teach Sibylla the arts of false magic, in particular palm and tarot card reading. Along with this she passed on the knowledge of a few choice spells from the wick’s almanac, handy tools for reeling in the customers!
When Sibylla was ten, Thorsten disappeared for three months. When he returned he explained to Clea that he had found a new wife in the Falling Stone tribe, and she was pregnant with his child. He bid Clea farewell, asking that she keep Sibylla safe and well – but he couldn’t say goodbye to the girl himself.
After that the faction suffered hard times, with profits dropping and its members gradually drifting away to join other Red Crow groups or marry out. Clea and Sibylla carried on making their annual tour of the towns and villages of Anaxas, foretelling good futures for those that paid them well and shadowy gloom for the stingy or uptight. They also began to visit the larger cities in an attempt to boost profits. Sibylla’s natural talent for art proved to be a useful addition to their business and she began to sell portraits for a small fee.
Sadly Clea passed away when Sibylla was 20, leaving her granddaughter her small cart and aging kenser, Broon. Sibylla decided to spend some time building up the business, starting in Old Rose Harbor, before deciding whether or not to find another Red Crow group to join.
Personality
Despite the losses of her early life, Clea’s love gave Sibylla stability for many years and this has resulted in Sibylla’s sunny outlook. She is generally smiling and happy, and loves her work. She is also rather materialistic, and the glee she feels at getting money from a client is only matched by the glee she feels when she spends it! She is confident, as she needs to be when interacting with customers. However she’s not one for a fight, and would rather run away from danger than throw herself into it. She has a tendency to be wildly romantic and often her infatuations run away with her.
Sibylla knows that her fortune telling is a sham, although she tries to find meaning in the cards where she can, treating them as more of a meditative aid. However, she is curious to learn more magic, especially real clairvoyance.
Physical Description
Sibylla has a fuller figure than many wick, mainly due to her grandmother’s cooking and her relatively non physical career. She is 5’6 with a rounded face, greenish hazel eyes and an olive tinted complexion. Her slightly upturned nose is scattered with a few freckles, and she wears a golden stud in her right nostril. Her naturally black hair is tinged blue and she generally wears it in loose, wild curls, held back from her face by a fabric headband. She also likes to wear hoop earrings, the bigger the better! Swirling tattoos cover her left arm from the collarbone down to the wrist and she always wears a small red neckerchief. Her clothing is always very flamboyantly ‘wick’, because she has her fortune telling persona to maintain – she favours long, swishing skirts with scarves tied around the hips, and embroidered tops.
Inventory
- her grandmother’s cart – a small, roofed vehicle that is just about big enough for two people to live in. The interior is divided in two by an embroidered curtain – Sibylla’s small kitchen and bathroom area is behind it. The front section is her workplace by day and her bedroom by night – her bed is usually folded away and a low table and cushions set out for her clients. The décor is eclectic, with a multitude of colourful drapes, brightly painted hangings and dangling beads. The outside of the cart is vividly painted. When she is open, Sibylla displays a large sign board: ‘Fortune Teller ~ cards read 1 tally, palm read 1 hat, portraits 3 tallies’.
- the accompanying kenser, Broon. He’s brown, old and a bit slow, but Sibylla’s known him since she was born and she couldn’t possibly get rid of him now! Sometimes he’s her only company on long journeys too.
- a selection of clothes, mainly chosen for their bright colours and over the top wick style.
- jewellery: bangles, earrings, rings and long strings of coloured beads.
- several packs of tarot cards – it’s how she makes a living!
- Spoke’s Almanac.
- art equipment: paper, pencils, paints.

Goals
Sibylla wants to start making a real profit and build up a large client base in Old Rose Harbor for the future. She would also like to extend her knowledge of magic, in particular scrying, so she can offer a more exciting experience to her customers. Making new friends, wick or otherwise, is another priority. In the long term she would like to find a new group of wicks to travel with, if possible.
