Name: Crius Levent
Age: 29
Race: Galdori
Place of Origin: Dorhaven

Backstory:

Crius Levent was one of the two Levent children, a boy and a girl, fraternal twins. He was a healthy, wiry child with a strong chin and broad shoulders, and his sister was just like him. Crius and Adalare did everything together, being the only children of a similar age in their area, and they were inseparably close. They played, learned, and lived together, and Crius made sure his sister kept up in their playful excursions. For many years, they shared everything with each other.

The Levent family had a rich history of power and nobility, their once intense beam filtered through generations of decline now but a murky glow illuminating a far from aristocratic family. Centuries before, Kester Levent held the position of Headmaster, and until just two generations ago, Sandor Levent held the position of Mayor of Dorhaven. Recently, however, the only thing the Levents hold onto are their wealth and distant memories of better times, a thing Crius and Adalare were never allowed to forget.

One day while pretending to study in the family library, Crius chanced upon a very old and unmarked book in a forgotten corner. Though aged it was pristine - obviously it had not been found or read for many a year. The dedication was to "my descendants" and the author, Kester Levent. It was the memoirs of the family's headmaster. For a reason unknown to Crius, he kept the discovery from his family and his sister, the first secret he kept from her.

One particular day in autumn, after a long day of playing, Crius suggested they should spy on their parents, something the book had inspired him to do. What they found out was that soon they were going to go be tested for their magical aptitude. Swearing that they would still be best friends once they got to Brunnhold, they were content.

However, after the long journey to Brunnhold, each of the siblings walked out of the exam rooms with a completely different fate than they had expected. Crius scored an amazing 9.3 on the test, nigh unheard of power levels, but as fate would have it, Adalare registered a 0 magically. As his parents embraced him in congratulations and led him to the admissions office, he saw Adalare dragged away in the opposite direction into her new life of servitude.

As a child isolated in Dorhaven with only his sister as company, Crius found it hard to make friends at first. New faces didn't interest him, all he wanted to do was see his sister, now kept in the bowels of Brunnhold. He heard whispers of a passive girl-servant who looked just like him, whispers about the fall of his family name, but the teasing never reached fever pitch as he kept largely to himself. Remembering he had The Book, which was almost his only comfort now, he read it.

It read like a manual of lies and deceit. It chronicled the life, actions and techniques of Kester, how he went from nobody to Headmaster of Brunnhold. It told him how to influence people, how to lie, how to identify the passions and vices of a person, how to forge those around as tools. His first practical use of it was to get him leverage to see his sister again. He constructed a network of knowledge and blackmail on all of his classmates, but instead of becoming an obvious villain, he exerted his force on their passions, and went from unpopular introvert to a leading light amongst his class. While he was fairly handsome, it was his confident attitude which gained him such popularity.

Puberty reared its ugly head and filled Crius with strange unexplainable feelings. Having no one to confide in but the book, elements of which made a lot more sense in light of these new feelings, Crius learned the facts of life through a tint of manipulation and control. Again he arranged to see his sister, perhaps she had been experiencing something similar? This time he saw her with new eyes, the dark stirring in his heart growing each day.

On his path for power in the footsteps of Kester, Crius expressed interest in research, loudly proclaiming his intent to remain with the faculty after graduation, to advance his powers to their full potential. He spent more and more of his free time with tutors and researchers, trying to find an angle to speed his ascent, which one day he did. Kester's manual touted perceptive magic as overall the most effective for making social and material gains, so while the research staff were on lunch break, he broke into their offices and stole a grimore of an experimental perceptive spell.

The moment he had it in his hands he departed quickly to see Adalare, so that she could play his alibi. Upon arrival his curiosity got the better of him, and it was no unusal thing for him to test perceptive spells on his sister. He tried the grimore out on her to terrifying effect. Realising its power, he decided to lie low for a while and consider his next move. Foolishly he left the spell in Adalare's hands, who finally set herself free of her life as slave to Brunnhold and to her brother.

Now Crius is a travelling researcher, using Brunnholds funding to discover and bring back foreign spells, though all as an elaborate cover in order to maintain a prolonged expedition to retrieve his sister and the powerful grimore.

Personality:

Crius sticks to what he knows, which is lying, deceiving and using those around him as tools for his own gain. Twisted by the high expectations of his politically impotent parents, the influence of his ancestor's teachings and the megalomania gone unchecked by the ethically gray environment of Brunnhold, Crius is a cold, manipulative sonovabander. Crius has no true friends, save for his sister, and has want for none other. Their relationship, like his persona, has also undergone a twisting, and no longer is she a soulmate so much as his canary and his obsession, and he seeks always to capture and dominate her life.

Physical Description:

Crius is the epitome of a galdor gentleman, his short brownish-gold hair neatly trimmed, every exquisite hair in its place. He also makes sure his face clean shaven and his smile easy, though both are mere affectations. Crius's piercing yellow eyes are large, and have a chilling coolness to them that belies their hue. Always decked in the finest that money can buy, he tends to look cultivated and controlled. He is a little taller than average for galdor men, and well built if narrow. Athletic through school, he is more of a long distance runner than a sprinter, and has the remaining musculature to prove it. A life of leisure has given him the time to keep up with his frame, and many excursions through Anaxas and the surrounding areas have kept him sharp.
