Backstory:

Born to a galdori, instead of deserting the child, Scarlet’s mother sent her to her father in the Black Hand tribe and never spoke to them again. Her father named her after the bright curls of hair around her face, which is her most prominent feature.

Although her father had been making pottery Scarlet’s whole life, she only started being serious about the craft at age seven. Now her father sells both her and her father’s work in every town they visit.

When Scarlet reached age sixteen, she stole a leira from a shop before her caravan left town. She named the leira Tilley and Tilley has been her closest friend over the years. Unfortunately Tilley likes to play jokes on customers by hiding in the potter, baskets or any other compartment she can fit into and jumping out at the potential buyer.

Personality:

Scarlet isn’t as resentful about her mother leaving her as one might think. In fact she enjoys the life she has now. To her, the Galdori are too stiff and she sees hardly any change among them. Such a life must be dull compared to living on the road.

Being part of the Black Hand tribe, she has learned there are no barriers. What good are doors anyway? If someone locks their house that must mean that there is something good inside! And if it isn’t nailed down, what is the harm if no one sees her take it? This has kept her pockets full, even when business is slow.

One of her favorite hobbies is obviously her work. Although pots are the main focus of her shop, she often finds herself sculpting animals. Occasionally one will sell. Her favorite animals to sculpt are pigs and sleeping cats. She also likes sneaking into houses, walking Tilley and taking long naps.

Scarlet’s favorite food is stewed hingle. Even as a child she has liked eating them, however she has never killed one. She always feels bad when she sees two beady black eyes look up at her. That is, until supper time.

Although she can use some magic, she prefers to save it for emergencies. There are some people who don’t even know she can use magic and are caught off guard when she does try something. Although many of her kind work hard in their secret magical studies, Scarlet knows her ego is in good shape without giving it more power.

Description:

Scarlet has long wavy red hair with three beaded braids under a cotton scarf, though her hair has darkened with time into auburn. Because she spends so much time outside and on the road she has many freckles and tanned skin. Scarlet has hazel eyes that match that of river stones and smoky eyeshadow. The eye shadow is mostly to keep the sun from bothering her, rather than for looks. She almost never wears any other kind of makeup.
