The Mods Are Very Busy

The Mods Are Very Busy is a slogan that reminds players not to expect to be the center of mod attention.

On the moderators' end, this game involves far more than just typing responses. The mods have to read threads every time they update, weigh decisions, update the AM log, read the wiki, create NPCs, plan behind the scenes, AND play their own characters. Not to mention they are also on chat, answering PMs and performing site maintenance. And they have lives, too.

Remember, the mods are very busy. Here are some tips for making the mods' lives (and yours) a whole lot easier.

  • If you have a question, please search the wiki before posting your question in the Q&A forum. Don't PM mods with questions about the game or the universe, unless you have a question that applies specifically to your own storyline and you need to keep it a secret from other players. If you post in Q&A you'll probably get an answer before you would if you were asking a specific mod!
  • It isn't the mods' job to write plotlines for you. You should figure out where to take your character on your own steam. A mod will happily answer questions for you, and maybe even give you a suggestion or two if you're lost, but don't expect them to write your story for you.
  • When writing your backstory, please think about how it will play out when you're actually in the game. Don't fill up your character sheet with references to NPCs that will need to be played by mods in order for your story to make sense. Move forward with your character; don't anchor them to the past.
  • Don't ask a mod to start a thread for you unless it's an absolute necessity to the plot - and an absolute necessity does not include "I'm bored" or "I don't know what to do." If you're bored, post in RP Discussion and ask someone to RP with you.
  • Try to minimize the need for a mod. Don't go into a bar and spend the whole time chatting up the waitress instead of talking to other players, for instance. If you're in a fight, don't make one-liner posts and force the mod to decide the outcome of every tiny little action.
  • Use greenshirts instead of known NPCs if you can.

Above all, please don't get needy, pushy or whiney if the mods don't help you out immediately. They have lots of players to handle and lots of threads to read, and you aren't the center of the Thorniverse.
