Name: Griff Hawn Age: 42 Race: Human Place of Origin: (Outskirts of) Old Rose Harbor

Backstory:

Jonan and Blithe, Griff’s parents, had the pleasure to live just far enough away from Old Rose to not be pestered by thieves and hooligans, but close enough to where they could still make a living.

It was late in their childless marriage when Griff was born, a big surprise for the old Fisherman and Basket Weaver. Seeing he now had someone to pass his fishing knowledge to, Jonan wanted to make up for the lost years with his son. When he thought Griff was old enough Jonan began to teach his son everything he would need to know in order to survive in the world of fishing. Griff grew up not caring much for the smell of his father’s work but he did pick up the crafts of his mother. Being a visual learner he learned the trade of basket weaving quite easily, and she even taught him how to sew, much to his fathers dismay. Griff’s first trip to the market, where his mother would sell her baskets, was where he decided to forget entirely about his fathers dreams of him fishing, and focus on the crafts he saw. Each week, he brought along a journal to sketch and take notes of the artisans at work. Soon he found that he enjoyed the sketching more than the crafts he had been attempting to recreate. Though his father looked down upon this, Griff got the encouragement of his mother to keep at it.

Griff assisted his mother in her basket making until he was in his late teens, trying to sell his own sketches and drawings on the side. Everything was looking well until a fire broke out at their home. Griff barely made it out and suffered a massive burn on the back of his right thigh. His mother was no so lucky, she perished in the fire along with his home. While Griff was being treated for his burns at a neighboring farm, Jonan came back from a fishing trip. His trip had been pretty rough and instead of coming back to a cozy welcoming home he came to find nothing but ashes. Fearing he had lost his home and family, he left for Old Rose Harbor to find a bottle of something to help him cope with his losses. The next morning Jonan’s body was found in the canal; apparently he had drown after falling in the water after leaving a local bar, severely drunk.

Soon after his father was found, the news got back to Griff. Now there was nothing waiting for him back at the place he once called home. Deciding he would follow his hopes of becoming a well-known artist one day, he planned to leave for Old Rose Harbor. Griff found his leg was healing far to slowly for his liking; Not wanting to become a burden on his generous neighbors any longer, he left. Arriving at Old Rose, he took up residence in a small loft above a seamstress shop. He took up odd jobs for any meager price, wanting to earn at least enough for his room and food. Griff mainly ran deliveries, unfortunately he never did allow his leg to heal properly and soon gained a limp. Griff could no longer could make the deliveries in a reasonable amount of time and had to beg for work from the seamstress shop below where he lived. He was lucky his mother had taught him to sew. At first he was allowed to only mend clothing but soon showed he could do more when he began to create his own clothing from the scraps he was allowed to keep. He now helps with the assembly of garments and likes to embroider small designs when he has time.

Personality:

Griff looks completely out-of-place in a seamstress shop, working seemingly patient on the garments brought in. He actually finds sewing tedious and boring for the most part and doesn‘t mind the strange glances he gets when mending any girlish garments. All that really keeps him going is seeing his hard work walk out the door, and leaving its payment behind. Designing outfits in his sketchbook is much easier but sadly doesn’t help pay the rent, especially since he never carries any of the ideas out.

When cornered in a conflict he tends to jump around the subject or begin to doubt himself.

Griff can tolerate higher pain than the average person due to living with his bad leg through the years. When blood is involved, he draws the line, he can become quite squeamish. Having been taught nothing of combative actions he has almost no fighting ability other than his natural instincts. It is good enough for him, he doesn‘t go looking for trouble.

Physical Description:

As a human he is slightly underweight for a man his age, the bulky clothing he wears doesn’t show it. Grey hairs are beginning appear, changing his hair to a dust brown. Having only a knife to cut his hair and shave, his hair occasionally has spots where is noticeably uneven. The beginnings of a pair of sideburns and a goatee frame his face. His eyes are a deep brown with tired lines tracing around his eyes. A large scar from where he was burned covers the entire back of his right thigh, from the back of his knee up to his tailbone. The old wound causes him to limp occasionally when walking, stress on the muscles makes it worse.

His clothes consist of a mixture of self made and threadbare garments he has found and mended. He likes to wear his clothes in layers so he can easily pull off or put on clothing depending on the weather. He has a pack he always carries with him that he slings over his shoulder.
