Bio:
Sten and Liza Vaughn, commonly referred to as Hunter and Swift, were a pair of assassins from the Black Hand tribe. They were known for their intimate knowledge of poisons and weapons, and ran an apothecary when they were not busy ‘settling debts’. They were very good at wetwork, and were the go-to’s for quite a bit of the tribe’s problems. Widely regarded as a cruel and mildly sadistic pair, it was a shock to everyone when they returned from a job carrying a 6-month-old baby, the son of a wick man who owed the tribe a fair bit of money. They had given him this money under the impression that he would assist them in smuggling contraband through the countryside. When he refused to provide this assistance when asked, and again refused to pay back the money, he and his wife were dealt with. For reasons unknown to anyone but the Vaughns, they did not kill the child. They named him Arion.

As soon as he was old enough to understand, they began teaching him the ‘family business’; everything from magic to which poisons were fastest and most undetectable to the easiest way to kill a man in one blow. Sten was an abusive and unforgiving man, often beating the boy when he made the slightest mistake. Liza might have actually cared for him, had she not grown prone to drinking herself numb. The abuse stopped, mostly, when he began fighting back against his father, specifically after an instance where, at eleven years old, he knocked out two of Sten’s teeth and fractured his wrist.

He learned his trade early, at first being used as bait to reel in his parent’s marks, playing the helpless lost boy and drawing them into a trap. He took his first solo job when he was thirteen, repeating the technique which would eventually earn him the nickname ‘Trapper’. Shortly after he began working on his own, his parents forced him to do another baiting for them. It would prove to be his last. It turned out that while they thought they were the ones doing the trapping, it was in fact a trap for them set up by Seventen. When they were caught, Arion reprised his role as the lost child, claiming that the Vaughns had kidnapped him, beaten him, and forced him to act as bait for them. It worked like a charm,  the authorities eager to believe the young boy’s word over that of the pair of known criminals. Sten and Liza were executed a short time later.

After the Vaughns were killed, Arion spent a short time in an over-crowded orphanage before he was able to slip away and return to the Hand with news of what had happened, omitting the details of his betrayal. He remained with the tribe until he was seventeen, when he departed their company. He moved to Vienda, where he settled and eventually began working as a rentboy on top of assassin work for the Hand, careers he detested.

He lived in the city for roughly six years . As time went on, he managed to make several friends and gain the first vestiges of a normal life. However, the Hand still contacted him from time to time to do their dirty work. Having had his taste of normality and not wanting to lose it, Arion decided to flee to Mugroba in late Dentis of 2712 in order to escape both the revolution and his old life. One of his good friends, a man named Tomas Baudin, accompanied him. When they landed, Arion assumed the name “Arion Baudin”, taking Tomas’ last name mostly because it was simple. Generally the two now act as though they are brothers. If asked, Tomas will say as such, but Arion gives a different story every time because it amuses him greatly. They co-own a small apothecary shop in what has become the Anaxi District, where Arion also works a bit of healing on the side.

Personal goals: After spending roughly five years working to become a better person, Arion’s goals are rather simple. He mainly desires to continue bettering himself, to have a roughly normal life, and to never set foot on Anaxi soil ever again.

Personality and Attributes
Arion has struggled and continues to struggle with depression and self-destructive tendencies, as well as some post-traumatic stress brought on by childhood abuse. He does not enjoy being touched and struggles with intimacy, and hasn't quite been able to get around not having the crutch of “it’s just business” that he used to use when he was working as a rentboy. He is not what anyone would describe as a “cheery” person, but he can be quite nice. He is hesitant to share details of his past and tends to be very evasive when asked questions. He prefers to be left to his own devices a vast majority of the time. He can sometimes struggle with the act of making friends and is generally unsure of what to do with people who are nice to him or people he genuinely likes, but he has gotten better in the last few years. He is a bit of a tender soul, buried under layers of hardened, abrasive exterior, and if people show an interest in getting to know him he does tend to open up, albeit very slowly. He has also given up most of his vices aside from tobacco and coffee. He still enjoys the odd bit of whiskey after a long day, and still smokes like a chimney.

He has a vast, intimate knowledge of poisons, and is trained in the use of various forms of weaponry, though he favours knives. He is also trained in combat magic and is decently skilled in that regard. He has recently taken up studying healing magic from several tomes he’s managed to scrounge up and so far has gained the knowledge necessary to mend minor cuts and fractures.

Likes: Sweets, whiskey, not being asked questions, being cared about, reading
Dislikes: His parents, questions about his past, Anaxas.

Appearance
Arion is a pretty thing, under all his scars. He has many of these, almost too numerous to list. One on his chin is from being struck with a candelabra during a job, the numerous ones covering his back are from his father’s cruel beatings, and there are a few self-inflicted lines along his wrists and forearms. Lately, he has shown an interest in covering these scars with tattoos, and has several small ones beginning at his wrists and is working up his arm, and is slowly but surely building up a large back piece, starting with a raven on his right shoulder blade. It’s possible that one or both of his birth parents were first-generation wicks, and that there is Hoxian blood in there somewhere. He has an angular face with almond-shaped, dark brown eyes rimmed in heavy lashes. Living in the Mugroba sun has given him a near constant tan. There is a light scattering of freckles across his nose and cheeks that carries over to his shoulders. He’s thin and wiry, but quite strong. He stands about 5’7. His hair is black with a faint curl on the ends, and is usually cut around his chin, but has been known to reach past his shoulders. The length generally depends on whether or not he can be bothered to cut it. When it is longer, he ties it back in a loose ponytail. The tip of his right ring finger is crooked, having been broken and never properly set. He tries to dress well, most of the time, and has developed a taste for mugrobi fashion, which is generally far cooler to wear in the desert heat. He is also usually armed, generally with a dagger hidden somewhere on his person, never having really gotten out of the habit from his days in Vienda. In the five years he has been in Mugroba, he has yet to have to so much as draw it, and he would like to keep it that way.
