Mugrobi Holidays
Turgamhrit - Roalis 15th though Yaris 1st. A sequence of holidays tied in with the start of the annual flooding of the rivers Duna, Yug, and Turga. Considered to be one of the most sacred and important times of the year, the first day of Turgamrhit was the start of the old Thul Ka Calendar and many of the festivals and rituals of the holidays have unmistakable new-years elements to them.
Elements of the holidays:
Bathing in the flood waters and ritual purification
Convivial gatherings with much toasting of future success
Bestowing of gifts upon children
A good deal of the eating of fish
Sacrifices and offerings to the river
Night of the 14 is the tradition start of the campaigning season for politicians with posters and signs appearing all over the city.
