Tjen Rahidk

Name: Tjen Rahidk
Age: 21
Race: Human (half Hoxian, half Anaxi)
Gender: Male
Place of Origin: Old Rose Harbor
Occupation:  Tailor/Shopkeeper
Bio: A short childhood under a serious Hoxian father and a quiet Anaxi mother turned into a long, slightly painful apprenticeship under a halfblind tailor for Tjen Rahidk. It wasn’t a particularly hard life and the boy took to the work. Soon he was doing most of the work as his master got older and more infirm, eventually not even lively enough to whip the boy for stealing his sugarcane stalks. This rough, peaceful existence in Old Rose was cut short by the fires that heralded the beginning of the Anaxi Revolution.
Having survived the collapse of the shop and a short stay at a makeshift infirmary along the waterfront, Tjen was able to recover a sizable collection of fine pieces that his master had kept locked in the basement of the shop before looters could. He resolved to sell of the stock as quickly as possible and get passage to a place that wasn’t as singed and broken apart.
One rainy night, he found a squatter in the same busted up fish shop he’d been living in , a tall spindly wick girl. Eirlys Erole was also trying to figure a way out of old rose, and the two decided that working together would quicken both their plans. Together, they worked to make enough selling Tjen’s recovered clothes. Eventually they were able to get two tickets to Thul Ka as well as an official certificate of marriage. The second thing was needed after they ended up becoming attracted to each other, and eventually compatible.
The two managed to find a decent craftsman style house in Little Anaxas, where they do much of the same things they managed in the Rose. They tailor, they restore, they sell an buy clothes. Tjen, now 21, feels, if not happy, than fairly secure. He’s a father of a two year old boy, Rajel, with another child possibly on the way. The few times he has the time for navel gazing Tjen marvels at how much life can change in five years.
Personality:  Tjen is quiet, blunt, and rare to say much unless something’s annoying him. On the other hand, he is almost always annoyed about something. He tends to mutter, rarely says anything without some edge of criticism to it, and has next to no patience with anyone. This sometimes hides the fact that at heart, he’s a very peaceful sort who will always turn his hand to helping anyone who needs it.Even with his wife and son, he tends to be rough. He’s lucky to have a wife who can call him out when he allows his nature to get in the way of his intent. For the most part, Tjen is a silent , glowering presence.
Goals: Tjen’s hopes for the future can be boiled down to: keep the shop running and keep his family fed. He enjoys his work (though it might be impossible to find any sign of this) and feels a responsibility to his new family to keep them comfortable. Part of this stems from a work ethic inherited from his no-nonsense father, and also comes from the specific feeling of awe in realizing that one isn’t alone in a useless universe, but has actually signed themselves on with others. Tjen works hard for the fear that the people he’s come to love would get dragged down into the dirt with him if he did not.
Physical: Tjen is short, broad shouldered, and well muscled from doing work as collier on the ship that took him from the Rose to Thul Ka. His eyes and hair are dark, as is his dark tanned skin. He tends towards the ostentatious with his clothing, mostly out of convenience. It’s rare to see him without his waistcoat and bowtie on. He sees it as an advertisment of his custom.
If you were to catch him outside of his shell of shirts and coats, you would see the trace of scars across his back and on his knuckles. Testaments to an earlier, harder life. A life he wouldn’t wish on himself, his wife, or his kids.
Other Notes: Tjen is almost always angry.
