Bio: Afewerek Obi was born into a long line of scholars, knowledge-hunters, and generally extremely bookish people. His father was an Amati of some obscure discipline, his mother was a prominent lecturer, and his great-grandmother wrote textbooks that are still standard in several courses at Thul’Amat. His passion for learning was thus instilled in him at a young age.
He learned to read and write rather early, always having his nose stuck in some book or another, which greatly pleased his parents. He chewed through a sizeable chunk of their extensive library before he was eight years old, retaining a good deal of what he consumed. He often attempted to relay what he learned to his younger sister, though as she is five years younger than him, she was often too young and too enthralled in her toys to pay much mind.
When he was 10, he was sent by his parents to spend a few years in Anaxas attending Brunnhold, to give him an appreciation for the world and other cultures therein. While it did do that, he missed the atmosphere of Thul Ka and returned to the city as soon as he graduated. It was thought that he might then carry on his education by applying to Thul’Amat, but he instead took up a teaching position at a popular primary school, where he has remained ever since.
Personality: Afe is a somewhat mild person. He is very nurturing and kind, and his years spent dealing with rambunctious young ones has made him a patient man. He always attempts to fully understand any situation before offering his opinions. He is highly intelligent, and has a gift for memorization and languages. He has been told in the past that he is “wasting his potential” teaching such young children, but he does not see it that way. He loves instilling a desire to learn in his pupils, and loves children in general. Many of his students go on to excel in later grades. Over the years, he has tried to maintain an enthusiastic approach to most aspects of life, and enjoys trying new things.
He is fluent in both Mugrobi and Estuan, and can read and understand trappings from a few other languages. He is decently skilled in magic, but is rather rusty as it has never quite been his area of study and he does not teach it.
Goals: Though Afe enjoys teaching at the school he is at now, he would like to, at some point, open his own small school with smaller class sizes, as he has found that having a hands-on approach to teaching generally has a better effect with such young children.
Physical: Afe looks very typical as far as galdori go. He is lithe and slender, with dark chocolate skin and long, honey gold hair in a multitude of small braids, tied back on itself in an attractive style. His most defining feature is his bright yellow eyes, which are a stark contrast to his dark skin. He is somewhat short, even for a Mugrobi galdor. He commonly dresses in white, as it keeps him cool and also has the benefit of being easy to remove stains from with the application of a bit of bleach. He has been known to dress in deep blues and purples on his days off. He has several facial piercings, generally wearing a simple gold ring in his nose and two curved barbells in his right eyebrow, as well as three gold studs in his ears, with another simple ring in the top of the left ear. His features are somewhat unremarkable, but he is not ugly, and he possesses a rather winning smile.
