 ORH Shenanigins
Cudgel Crewed=abducting random people to be forced into work on ships when the captain is short a few hands.
I could have sworm I've heard this term before, though when I google it, I don't really come up with anything.... But I just have to wonder, would it be likely to happen in ORH? What do you guys think? Some ship recently had a few guys jump ship. Instead of going to the trouble of replacing 2 or 3 guys and having to pay them, abduct a few unsuspecting luggers and force them to serve still the voyage is over.

More or less. Yeah. I've done a bit of digging and "Press Ganged" is also used.

Oo. I like "Cudgel Crewed." It sounds so appropriate and Vitan, where as Shanghaied is kind of... earthy.

 Re: ORH Shenanigins
well Shanghaied does refer to the actual earth city of shanghai, but I gotta agree, Cudgel Crewed definitely sounds like something they'd say in thorns.

I have always been fond of the term press-ganged personally. P:

 Re: ORH Shenanigins
Well press-ganged doesn't necessarily mean that you were forced to work on a ship. Being press-ganged refers to whenever superior numbers force you to do something regardless of what it is.

I like just "crewed." Sounds...crude. And ORH-y.

 Re: ORH Shenanigins
Yeah, I was just thinking that, Cart. Crew'd. It's like it's slang or something.
'Ye lot seen ol' Bessie 'round, lately?' ''Heard tell she been crew'd.' ''s a shame. She were a fine 'un.'
Etc...

 Re: ORH Shenanigins
So...cudgel crew'd. New term or something...? Honestly I can't remember where I herd the term. Though, as I said, googling it directly doensn't come up with mutch. But the next question would be: What's the likelyhood that it would happen in OHR? Likely, or pshhht, nah?

 Re: ORH Shenanigins
On one hand I'd say it's likely, but it would only happen to humans and passives. Unwilling wicks and galdori are just trouble. Not that passives aren't but it's difficult to tell them from humans. Basically, they'd probably avoid anyone with a field.
Then again, I'd say it might be unlikely, because the act of Cudgel Crewing might set off a Passive's diablerie, and then they might need to replace MORE crewmembers... so to avoid they danger, they might just not do it at all.

 Re: ORH Shenanigins
Good points there, Angel.
A golly would be way too much trouble and a passive would have the possibility of that one-shot knockout.
Though they might be able to limit it to weak/young wicks (there are ways of making unwilling wicks behave. Cat o' Nines, anyone?) and humans. And we could all probably agree that this wouldn't happen too often.

 Re: ORH Shenanigins
I don't think they would worry about passives much. We really overblow the passive population. They constitute only 1% of all magical births (gollies and wicks), which is only a small portion of the Anaxi populous. And, most of them are in an institution.
Think of it this way: in our world, all around the world, schizophrenics constitute a constant 1% of the population. Most of them are in institutions. Some of them are not. How often do you meet schizophrenics in day-to-day life if you're not a professional in the psychological field?

 Re: ORH Shenanigins
Y'know, Jade, that's a really good illustration.
So, passives are so uncommon we could presume that cudgel crewers would never even think about snaring a passive, I suppose.

 Re: ORH Shenanigins
Pretty much. It might cross their minds, but the chances and risk are so slim that they probably wouldn't worry about it.

 Re: ORH Shenanigins
This probably occurs way more in ORH than in the Muluku Islands or Mugroba. Maybe on some of the lawless islands off the coast, but in general Mugroba keeps a watchful eye on the harbor, and they have a lot of human militia in place there.
