!!!Backstory

Born on the sixteenth day of Bethas, during the hight of the Wick Festival, young Henri seemed to emulate the spirit very of a wick. As a part of the Red Crow tribe, he grew up with a subtle talent for music that was encouraged every day of his life, but he always found rote learning a bother... instead preferring to improvise and make up his own songs. This seeming lack of discipline carrying into the rest of his life. He grew up a daydreamer, and although not necessarily lazy, he would become very reluctant to do things he did not want to do.

One fateful day, when his tribe was passing by a bit to close to the mists of Anhau, Henri became lost. It wasn't that hard, as ever since childhood the young boy could find a way to get lost in an open field, or a market on a sunny day. And it was with this innate lack of a sense of direction that he managed to wander in the exact opposite direction than he should have, and drifted from his spoke in the mists.

When he finally emerged from the fog and discovered that he was all alone, it did come as a shock to say the least, but as soon as the shock wore off Henri discovered that he actually kind of enjoyed the solitude. Its rather hard to find some peace and quiet when you live in a caravan of all your brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, et-cetera. He may love his family to death, with all his heart and loyalty, but that didn't mean that they didn’t get on his nerves sometimes...

He had been getting the 'itch' to go drifting off on his own as of late, but he had not yet made up his mind to just go, as it was easier to just tag along with the spokes. But the mist had taken care of that for him, and although it was completely accidental, without even a chance to say goodbye, he was on his way. It was better this way... he didn't particularly like goodbyes, and although he may miss them terribly he is not desperate for a reunion any time soon.

And so taking up his satchel and his fiddle, he set off to see the world... promptly getting lost all along the way.

Currently, Henri has set up on a corner in Old Rose Harbor, playing his instruments, performing tricks and generally having a good time. He’s heard a few rumors about something about a rebellion... but has mostly just waved them off as rumors. Although he cannot help but be curious... maybe it would make for a good song.

!!!Personality

Good-natured, if a little bit lazy, Henri is a friendly, quirky character. Always one for a good story from his past, or one he just makes up on the spot. He is clever and sharp witted, especially if it will get him out of trouble or something he does not want to do. And he is rather slow to anger, usually just staying at extreme irritation, a trait required from years of dealing with younger siblings and family members.

Henri has a soft spot for hingles and a strange, odd shaped hat that he wears everywhere. Always good for a game of cards or dice, he doesn’t much mind loosing... only if he’s lost fair and square. Cheaters, liars and poor losers are a personal pet-peeve of his. And he also has a nearly crippling fear of leira.

Despite his relaxed nature, he takes almost meticulous care of his instruments. And when he is angered or insulted he takes it deadly seriously.

!!!Description

Henri has the typical tanned complexion wick, complete with a smattering of freckles on his arms and chest. His hair is black... or red. It’s been died both so many times its hard to know the original color. But its nearly completely covered with a strange, formless hat of which he is never parted so it really doesn’t matter.

He is lean, well muscled man... but he is also short. Very short, even for wick, and it is one of the things that will cause him to anger in an even shorter amount of time. And his young looking features coupled with his hight only make the matters worse.

He wears an over-sized, multicolored, puffed shirt, with a patched vest over it. His pants are also patched with a myriad of colorful swatches of fabric... almost more patch than pants. The pants are tucked into a pair of tall, well worn, thick soled boots that add another inch to his hight. In one of the boots he’s got a thin, long riff hidden... in case he gets himself in a situation he cant talk his way out of.

On his back he has a case containing his instruments and he carries a satchel bag with all his belongings over his shoulder.

His deepest desire, although he would never confess this in person even under the most dire of consequences, is to fall in love. He’s never experienced it personally himself, and with all the romanticized ballads and songs that he sings about it, he’s beginning to believe that it is just an illusion, a dreamer's fantasy blown way out of proportion.

His proclaimed goal is to be reunited with his family, but his actions clearly show that this is not his primary concern. He is, however, actively seeking to learn more about this rebellion he’s heard such interesting rumors about... even if the rumors prove to be false it would still make for an excellent song.

Calli's in the Circus and she's a Crow; they're on their way to Dorhaven.

Keirya's a Crow (though she's an NPC, not a player) and on a trip currently out toward the Wraithvine wood area.

Tristaan's a passive, but he ended up in the care of the Crow for a handful of years. He's currently in ORH.

Um. I might be forgetting one or two. If you check out the wicks in the Yellow Pages section of the wiki, you might be able to find more ... not everyone is as active as the three I listed, however.

Hey there, welcome to Thorns!

Only one real issue with this backstory - while the Red Crow are a big tribe with lots of factions, and it's understandable that a small subset might have gone missing, the wicks meet up every year at Surwood. If his tribe was still around, he probably wouldn't have any trouble finding them. Perhaps you could tweak this story to reflect that the tribe is gone, permanently? If they became lost in the hatcher mist and Henri escaped, he could just be unaware that they were killed, or he could know about it and still consider himself "lost". Anaxas isn't a large kingdom, so a truly lost tribe would be a little hard to picture.

Ah, I can see how you would think that...

I was trying to avoid the whole 'tragic past' thing that pretty much everyone goes with. Really what I was trying to get across was that, although Henri loves his family, he is really digging his independence right now. Plus, its not the tribe that is lost, its Henri. He could get lost in an empty market place on a sunny day... the mist just exasperated that. So, while the tribe may meet every year, Henri may or may not be able to find his way there when it happens.

Kind of like a child saying "my family is lost" when they are the ones who are lost. I don't know... I could change it if that doesn't make it any clearer.

Wicks willingly drift from their families at anytime. You don't necessarily need a 'tragic past' at all. I could see that as a creative type, Henri could simply have decided he needed to hit the road and get some life experience on his own, you know, to better his music and to earn some ging away from his tribe.

It wouldn't have been looked down upon by his parents or even the tribe. It might even been encouraged. His family would still be there for him anytime he decided to come back (even if it was just to visit and not permanent).

Because the Crow enjoy a nomadic life, I don't think there'd be any stigma to striking out on one's own, especially if Henri is just the adventurous type. You don't need to 'lose' anyone in the mist so much as perhaps consider having felt the call to wander.
