 Lochlan Greensmythe
'''Name:''' Lochlan Greensmythe '''Age:''' 29 '''Race:''' Galdor '''Place of Origin:''' Muffey
!!!Backstory:
Lochlan was brought up in the fashionable town of Muffey by kind but firm parents. As the name might imply, the Greensmythe family name originates from their background as influential botanists and master gardeners. Many of the Greensmythes are published authors in horticulture, endowing the family with enough wealth to live comfortably in the trendy town.
One summer's day the 5 year old Lochlan was helping his father in the garden and got careless with some shears, cutting a finger deeply by accident. His father quickly administered a healing spell and Loch saw and felt his flesh stitch together again. From that day onward, he wanted to be a healer, and not a gardener. At first his parents would hear nothing of the sort, but neither did he budge. Eventually his persistence won out, and he secured an apprenticeship with a family friend who was an accomplished healer. The man saw healing as an art and he taught it as such.
The time for testing came and Lochlan scored 5.7 - good enough but nothing special. His parents were a little disappointed, but made a concious effort to hide it for his sake.
At Brunnhold he made friends easily and predictably enough enjoyed his living magic lessons greatly, sometimes to the negligence of some of the other areas of speciality.
Lochlan spent a lot of his free time in the Stacks, much like any other typical student. On the way home from a night out in Dentis of '96 he thought he heard hooves, then was certain he smelt smoke. Turning the corner, he saw a local inn, ablaze. Without thinking he dashed into the fire and found a girl unconscious, probably from smoke inhalation. He dragged her from the burning building and carried her to his healing mentor who lived nearby.
It was here she stayed for two weeks, kept unconscious, while she healed. Her feet were burned, her arm too, where her nightgown had caught alight a little. Smoke had damaged an eye and severely damaged her lungs, which made for very delicate healing. Whenever she started to wake, Dr Robertson would put her back to sleep. When she was fully healed, he had Lochlan leave her on a doorstep in the neighbourhood he found her in, and that was that. Or so he thought.
One night, during his final year at the university, he and friends were back in the Stacks, drinking to excess as usual. What was unusual this time though was the dark haired waitress serving them. Something about the way she looked over seemed odd, and he found himself with a free beer for seemingly no reason. He could not shake the familiar feeling he got from her, and only staggering on the way back did he realise that it was the very same girl he'd pulled from the fire all those years ago.
It is well known that students do not turn down free drinks, neither do they pass up opportunities for more. Loch brought his friends to the same tavern as much as he could on the nights she worked, at first for the cheap drinks and out of curiosity, but as time went on he found himself growing fond of her attention and company. This transformation did not go unnoticed by his friends, and they began to allude to it, which bothered him perhaps less than it should.
In the months leading to Clock's eve Lochlan studied hard. Graduation came and went, and still he studied, just one spell, for it to work once. On the eve of Clocks Lochlan arrived at Fion's bedsit disguised as a wick, and effecting a concealed field. He took her out, and they drank and danced and drank some more. The night came to an end and Lochlan invited her back to his home, knowing his parents were away. He told her he loved her and asked her to run away with him, somewhere, anywhere where they could be together. To affirm his intentions, he gave her a ring, and they made foolish, naïve, passionate love. The next morning they awoke to the sound of Lochlan's parents in outrage, having heard tell of him being seen with a human girl the previous night. He hid Fion in his wardrobe before they came into the room, but they wasted no time and immediately took him away from Muffey and Brunnhold that had corrupted their son, away to the country, to live with his grandfather.
His apprenticeship with Dr Robertson was over, and his studying under Dr Greensmythe began. His grandfather was a published soil and peat expert, a mind full of nitrates, phosphates, pH levels and, well, soil. Loch hated his new life, but did not complain to his parents, who insisted that they called him a stain out of love for him - that he would learn his place in society, and learn what he had done to theirs. Lochlan despised gardening now, but he had an undeniable talent for it. He retained every useless word his grandfather told him.
The boredom, frustration, isolation and constant berating tarnished his memories and curbed his spirit. Eventually Fion was no longer the human love forbidden to him but the deceiving whore that ruined his life.
Nine years on Lochlan is a different man. When the palace had want of a young Greensmythe to maintain the gardens they were sent Lochlan, in the hope that he could turn a new leaf and repair the damage done to their good name. He is wealthy and lives comfortably in one of the more well-to-do neighbourhoods, near the palace of Vienda. He is in a long term relationship with a pleasant woman whom he does not love, and his job gives him no satisfaction whatsoever. Each year on Clock's Eve his behaviour is erratic at best.
!!!Personality:
As a boy, Lochlan was happy, friendly, inquisitive and had some fight in him, at least enough to go up against his parents most of the time. While he was not naïve enough to consider all races equal, he acknowledged that everybody hurts, and as a healer he would never have withheld treatment if a person was unwell. Now Lochlan is a tired and exasperated man, empty of ideals, trapped and lost. Occasionally his feelings of impotence manifest themselves physically, which in turn causes him further anxiety. When he's alone he is prone to punching walls, which almost always ends in an injury.
!!!Appearance:
Lochlan is of light build and average height for a galdor - just taller than a human female. He has tawny hair and hazel eyes with a yellow tint. His upper body is more developed overall, due to the manual aspect of a lot of his gardening work, but it couldn't be said that he is athletic. A distinct feature is an angular and bony jawline, and a pleasant, if goofy, smile. He rarely smiles nowadays.
!!!Inventory:
* Plant specific grimores bloom ripen pesticide * Ceremonial Royal Botanist suit * Golden trowel
!!!Career:
Lochlan holds the lofty position of "Royal Botanist", which essentially makes him a glorified gardener. His charge is to maintain the palace gardens and the rare and high maintenance plant life within. Lochlan finds the job demeaning and exasperating at the same. It's hard, specialised work, but he has never found it anywhere near as rewarding as healing, though the pay is more than enough to support a lavish and empty lifestyle.
!!!Goals:
Get some direction in his life, maybe get a more rewarding job (though technically none exist in his field that are higher) Find out what's wrong with the Queen's godsdamn mancatcher
