!!!Backstory

Glade Calliphy Decident was born to two galdori who run a bookshop in the Stacks. As a child he always would read by day, and stare at the stars until his curfew. Although fascinated by books of every kind, Glade's true love is the stars, and hated having to go to sleep because he was to young to stay up late. At the age of ten Glade took the entrance exam to Brunnhold, and was accepted into the student body. Throughout his years at Brunnhold Glade made friends, lost friends, studied, and became educated in the field of Quantitative magic, apprenticing to his Quantitative magic professor as he aged.

Glade studied astronomy, and was top of his class for the Introductory and Intermediate classes, and was doing excellently in Advanced Astronomy, but then his love life ruined his chance. Glade was dating a nice galdori girl in his grade, and they were very close. So close that she wanted to be one of the rebellious young people who married in school. Glade couldn't take the commitment and broke up with her. She was heartbroken, and cried for days. Her father was very concerned about her and she told him the story. This made her father angry at Glade, and her father happened to be the Advanced Astronomy professor, who decided to fail Glade.

Glade continued school, and graduated with a focus in Quantitative magic. He hoped to get a job and study astronomy from books in his parent's shop, when his father became very sick, and he stayed at home to run the shop while his mother took care of his father. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Besides keeping his parent's business afloat, he also read every book in the bookshop about astronomy, and practiced on the roof every night. He finished all the books, and then went to other shops, and bought even more books, making an extensive Astronomy section in his parent's shop, and a large personal library, as well as expanding his knowledge extensively. His father's disease lasted a long time, but three days after Glade's 26th birthday, his father returned to good health.

One day Glade met a man in a bar who said that he was looking to start an international science and mathematics society, and was looking for scientists to travel with him to different towns and spread knowledge. Glade left the Stacks aboard the aeroship, and sailed around among magic and science for ten years, lecturing the towns they visited as the ships resident astronomer. They traveled around the countries meeting strange and interesting people, teaching, and learning. Once, a person on the ship bought a pair of "magic mice" from a street vendor. They turned out to have no magical ability, but they were able to escape, and they started having children. In order to stop this Glade bought two cats, a white one and a black one, which kept the mouse population at bay.

During this time of traveling, Glade fell in love with a Mugrobi woman, and every time that the aeroship stopped in her city he would visit with her, and try to get her to join them on the ship. One stormy night they got separated, and Glade searched everywhere for her. She had been hiding in a friend's house to avoid the rain, but he couldn't find her, so he returned to the ship, and his team traveled back to Brunnhold. While he was there Glade decided to retire from adventuring, and moved back into his parent's house, with the cats who were no longer needed on the ship.

Currently Glade is living above his parents shop, working on writing his own spells and, feeling unaccomplished. He hasn't yet found his true name, even though he is thirty-seven. Last week he heard that their was an opening for an Astronomy Teacher at Brunnhold, and has applied for the job. He has not yet had the interview, but hopes to be accepted. His parents recently hired a young gadori woman, and his mother can oversee both her and Glade's father, who is again sick.

!!!Personality

Glade is not at all one of the gadori who thinks that their should be world peace and that gadori, humans, wicks, and passives should live in harmony. He despises humans, feels wicks are weak, and can't stand to be around a passive. Above all hatred, Glade hates passives. They are so disgusting, he could not bear to touch one. Other than that Glade is generally a people person, and doesn't mind Anaxi-Mugrobi relations. He does however have a fear of commitment, and has never been romantically involved for that long. He tends to listen quietly to what people have to say, and then afterward commenting or making corrections, but he hates when people lie about their accomplishments or past, and when people are repetitive with what they say.

!!!Physical Description

Glade enjoys reading outside, and during his school days often went on walks in the garden. Because of this, he is slightly more tan than many galdori. Other than that he is about 5'4'', and skinny. He has red hair, and has always been proud of it; thinking it was beautiful. He keeps his hair short and trimmed, and is always clean shaven.

Hi there Ben, thanks for being so patient It's really nice to see an older galdori character, especially an astronomer! Quite unique and interesting.

We just have a few edits for you:

1. You've misspelled "galdor" several times; also, the plural of that word is "galdori," not "gladors" Also would you mind giving this sheet a quick once-over for grammar?

2. There's very little information about your character's expedition in here. Since it covers ten years, I'd really like to know more about it. What was his team investigating? Where did they go? Did he learn anything about any specific cultures while he was exploring with them? How was he found and hired by the company? Did Glade take away any memorable experiences (you mention a Mugrobi lover)?

3. True names are one of those things that people who don't go into magical studies typically don't worry about. As Astronomy is a secular pursuit (aka non-magical for the most part) he might not be as interested in it. Just something to consider, it can still be a goal of his if you want!

4. If he wanted to study astronomy, he'd have definitely taken Quantitative magic, not Physical. Quantitative involves measurements, which is really useful while studying the stars and planets.

5. Regarding the goal of becoming a teacher, Glade might want to try for a less advanced position. There are multiple positions open in the astronomy department, and if he's never taught before he might want to try out for Elementary or Intermediate instead.

6. Your personality section is a little sparse. You mention his feelings on other races (and Mugrobi women) but there's little else. I don't feel like I know much about who he is as a person. What are his strongest personality traits? What are his strengths and weaknesses? How does he interact with others? etc

8. In this world cats are not usually kept as pets (and only then by peasants to keep the mice away). They'd be considered unusual for a galdor. He could keep ostas instead, since they are popular among galdori, but if you specifically want cats we'd probably need a line in the backstory about why he keeps them.

9. Regarding spell-writing - this would be more plausible if he was a Quantitative sorcerer, because then he could be working on some specialized spells for his astronomical studies. Inventing new Physical spells is incredibly difficult as most of them have already been made.
