 Gannon Oranos
'''Name:''' Gannon Oranos
'''Age:''' 24 (Intas 14 2688)
'''Race:''' human
'''Place of Origin:''' Destelagne, Bastia

!!!Backstory

Concerning himself, there are few things Gannon will tell truthfully, and the amount of alcohol in his system can move his level of honesty either direction. However, on the subject of his initial roots--a Bastian native who was shipped to relatives--he will remain cavalier to the point that one might loose interest in further questioning.

Of course, that's the idea.

He was shipped to the farmlands of Anaxas when he was but two, in fact. A life with his uncle Andrew Oranos (an earlier immigrant) and his aunt—a Tall Tree witch named Pertha—offered more for a young Gannon than his parents stood to give, having been pushed off their farmland to make way for the ravenous city of Destelagne.

Gannon's life growing up on the farm was fairly pleasant, their farm was much better off than many of their neighbors and conditions were—at worst—subsistence in harsher seasons. However, subsistence wasn't always sufficient for galdori landlords, who expected a certain revenue quota to be met. Failure to meet the quota meant the forfeit of properties and the family’s scant furniture made up the difference. However, a dispute broke out over the amount of possessions taken and took a furious turn when a galdor struck Gannon's aunt. Enraged, Gannon dove into the galdor, attacking him. But Gannon was to ultimately loose that fight after being struck hard by a lashes spell to his right eye. He immediately lost all sight in that eye. Soon after the seizure of the furnishings, things turned down for the Oranos family. The debts became harder to pay off as their crop productivity dwindled. Ever the optimistic man, Uncle Andrew pressed forward in the fields. But Gannon did not share his uncle's trust in fortunes. The loss of his eye had turned him more than bitter and he no longer saw the point in "rakin' the soil till yer hands bleed and pulling out nothen' but kenser shit". Gannon left home for Vienda at 16, set on forging a new path and sending home money to help support his family in their crisis.

Nothing could have prepared this Bastian-bred country boy for the city. The dingy atmosphere and the masses of people sent him into something of a culture shock. But the city of Vienda, though a harsh instructor, taught young Gannon how to land on his feet running; and run he did. Gannon took every odd job anyone could offer during the day, and worked hideous hours in a mechanical parts factory—pumping bellows to heat furnaces for melting metal—through the night. Sleep became a foreign concept, as did food and shelter, as he had little. He was becoming yet another gray soul amid the populace of Vienda when he met Floretta Hatter: a generous old woman living in Uptown Vienda who offered a helping hand to a fellow human by giving Gannon shelter by her kitchen stove. As time stretched on, the two became friends. Gannon held enormous respect for her wisdom and she grew to enjoy the fiery young man's spirit.

Six years after gaining a home with Floretta, Gannon encountered another watershed in his life. Delivering a crate of Floretta's pots to a customer, he took a shortcut down a seedier street and soon found himself cornered by a few nastier characters. Between his knotted fists and crate, he sent the nere-do-well's packing. However, his well-placed blows had not gone unnoticed. A man of equally shady reputation as those Gannon had just dealt with and who was currently going by the name Stephen Morrison approached him with the offer of more money than he could shake a stick at and a means of income he would excel at. Street fighting, to put out its true name over the euphemism of "Boxing" that Morrison labeled it. Street fighting in The Basin, to be precise. Gannon heartily accepted despite Floretta's ardent opinion as: "a stupid practice of clocking idiocy". Soon, Gannon found himself in the middle of the most detested pockmark in Anaxas trading punches with the most vicious individuals un-hanged. And he was good. His unrestrained and reckless fighting earned him the name “Bastian Berserker”. His huge frame easily took to the bloody dance, his boisterous and belligerent nature fit in well with the cutthroats, and he began to indulge in all the worldly pleasures his new occupation could provide. Wine, women, song, the full measure of the Basin were at his disposal. And the money was as promised; he made more in one night than a week's wage in a Soot District mill. His streak would continue for some time; he became invincible in his own mind.

However, he ignored Floretta's wisdom too long. It took but one loss to another up-and-coming fighter—another who hungered for more than the back-break of the factories—and this newfound prosperity turned on him like a hatcher coven. Beaten to pieces and scarcely clinging to consciousness, he was then robbed by Stephen Morris of his winnings. Gannon's fighting career was ruined.

He went back to the factories a few months longer before he had a mind to start up a business in a decapitated old building. Ever the worker if not a visionary, Gannon fixed up the place and soon had a suitable establishment: The Clockwork Stag, a drinking den on the outskirts of the Soot District. Soon after he hired the young Ted Burns, typically alotting him jobs the big man disliked most, such as cleaning and cooking, while Gannon himself tackled what he was far better suited to: serving up drinks, managing the riff-raff, rolling out kegs, glaring at customers, ect. He's been successfully glaring for two years now and also currently lives at the Stag. He personally has a keen interest in the Resistance....

!!!Personality

Rowdy and boastful as his best and downright wrathful at his worst, Gannon has a personality befitting his huge frame. His laid-back egotism translates to calm friendliness and his occasional gruffness to a state of gloom. He's not a man who grasps many of his own emotions and he'll often respond with cold anger or frustration to fear, sadness, or desolation. Vienda has thoroughly calloused him, and the need to press on through life has left him little time to analyze feelings. For the most part, he's sociable, but his fuse is short on an explosive temper. This coarse demeanor conceals a facet to his nature that borders on compassion--an uncommon occurrence. At his core he has a brusque kindness that is hard to spot. Loyal to a fault, Gannon exhibits such a quality towards those few he holds dear. Much of his motivation derives from this desire to provide for and defend those few, for he is afraid to loose them in a way he doesn't even understand. These people (His Aunt, Uncle, cousins, and Floretta) have become his definition of "home" and having already become removed from two; he holds an unconscious fear of loosing his "home" again. This fierce desire to protect is his main drive and also his greatest weakness.

On the subject of his eye, it's best not to mention it. Or stare at it. In a way, his blind eye is quite symbolic of his past. Inquiring about this past will cause him to clam up with a most searing glare.

He has a strong aversion to combating women and has an illogical paranoia that pertains mainly to mice—something having to do with his ears.

!!!Physical Description

Gannon cuts quite an imposing figure. With a frame as hard to miss as a Hoxian mountain on a Hessean grassland, scruffy sable hair, and his missing right eye—covered by a worn patch while also bearing a jagged scar—it’s no wonder.

He’s quite tall and sustains a burly frame to fit. His hands are scarred and calloused and his muscles make a formidable show of strength. His facial structure consists of a squared off chin sporting a rough goatee, high cheek bones and bridged nose that’s been broken a time or two. His skin has grown pale from his time working indoors. Gannon typically keeps his dark hair just above his shoulders while thick bangs overhang heavy brows. His remaining eye is coal-black. He commonly keeps his brows low.

!!!Inventory

Weapons:
*Iron-like fists
*His thick short sword “Roxanne” (or occasionally “Golly-Gutter”)

Stuff:
*Sensible clothing: simple pants and loose shirts, knee-length wool coat, thick leather belt, steel-tipped boots
*Frayed eye patch
*Modest monetary savings

!!!Career:

Bartender
*Strong enough to heft most barrels
*Superb at breaking up fights (or starting them)
*Good memory of tavern songs

Fighter
*Good at guarding his blind side
*Boxer—trained the hard way in The Basin
*Much practiced skill with “Roxanne”

!!!Goals:

Gannon desperately wants to see his family in a more prosperous financial situation. He’s often sent more money than he should and spent time hungry or worked himself to dizzy exhaustion in the factories because of it. However, he knows they will never see true success till they hold their own land—free from galdori landlords and their taxes. He too has sworn a wrathful vendetta against the ruling class on his blinded right eye. Gannon would like nothing better than to tear the pillars of the galdori oppression down with his bare hands. He also has a keen interest in joining the Resistance.

You can PM Floretta Hatter to check that we prediscussed their intersection in the backstory.

Just keeping everything well lit ;)

Thanks for the pic complement, guys! That wasn’t all of it though. I had to cut it down quite a bit to get in a good pic of the guy. I’ll probably upload the big part on dA and then shoot a link into the Creative Endevors.

Oh, and unwandering, it’s me, Bey! ;P

And git ta' work, Gammy :<

Thanks for your patience. You've only got a few minor edits to make and then you're on your way to approval!

1. Could you go back and check your spelling of Thorns terms? It's Anaxas instead of Anaxis.

2. Just as a warning, a Fulmination spell would most likely melt Gannon's whole face and leave terrible scarring, not just take out only one eye. The spell is powerful and dangerous. Something more direct and simple like Wither or a strong Pox or Lashes spell would most likely be a better choice for damaging a single eye without leaving any lasting evidence to the rest of Gannon's face ... unless you'd like to edit in some actual scarring. That decision is up to you, and if you have any questions, feel free to PM a mod or find us on chat.

3. Not an edit, but your goals are lovely and well-thought out. :F

Ready for inspection! :)

I changed the spell to "lashes". I thought something with a name like that would cause blindedness in the eye as well as giving it the jagged scar.

However, I was unable to find a description of it or Pox spells in the wiki spell directory. I don't think I overlooked it. :/ A wiki error perhaps?

Lashes, Pox, and Welts are all modifications of the same spell, Sting. They have more physical manifestations and when cast at a higher level than elementary would be capable of causing real damage if left untreated. Lashes causes open slash wounds, Welts raises them on the skin, and Pox causes boil-like sores. They are all painful, like the spell Sting implies, so that's why they weren't entirely detailed in the Wiki.

;D

However, you forgot to edit Anaxis to Anaxas. If you could go do that, you're ready for approval.

Thanks!

Alright, got the second "Anaxis" changed. I'd missed that one.

I see can find them in the wiki now. My oversight. And I think lashes will fit best.

And thank you for the complement on the Goals. ^^
