IC Race: Galdor
Post Nalisia Larimer
'''Name:''' Nalisia Larimer; goes by "Nal"
'''Age:''' 17
'''Race:''' galdori
'''Place of Origin:''' Dorhaven

!!!Backstory:

Nalisia's parents, who shall remain nameless, were both galdor doctors. They retired young to the small town of Dorhaven to raise their daughter Nalisia, but, as was to be expected, never saw much of her. Nal grew up alone but didn't seem to mind very much. Charming and well-mannered from an early age (but what galdori child isn't?) she made friends with anyone who she deemed worthy to speak to. The other children were slightly afraid of her anger, but no one ever saw Nal angry. Her parents tested her once for magic when she was six, and it backfired quite horribly. She received a long and thin scar on her right shoulderblade. After that, her parents left her alone until she was ten.

When Nalisia took the entrance exam to Brunnhold, her scores were, quite naturally, stellar. She enjoyed herself for the first five years of her study. When she was fifteen and it was time to choose a future profession, Nal hoped to apprentice with a politician--even a clerk would be good enough. Her parents, however, had other ideas. They didn't even let her begin her argument (and she couldn't interrupt them). And so she began studying to be a doctor.

Nal was furious. She talked to professors about changing her field of study, but her parents' word was law. It was then that she began to question the entire system of the galdori. She pulled back from her clubs and social life and spent more time in the library, reading or even just thinking. After a few months of moping, she had an idea. It wasn't even about her job anymore. She wanted revenge on her parents, the university, on everyone.

Nalisia wanted to help the resistance.

She spent the next two years studying, as she figured an educated galdor was of more use that one who slacked off. She had no idea how to get involved, but with each class that brought her closer to becoming a doctor, her resolve to betray her race strengthened.

!!!Personality:

Charismatic, charming, and quite narcissistic, Nalisia is just about the sweetest girl around...when it gets her what she wants. A born leader, Nal will do whatever it takes to get whatever strikes her fancy. Most of the time that involves sucking up to her elders, but she knows it will pay off eventually. And if it doesn't, her sugary sweet façade crumbles to reveal her cold interior. Truthfully, Nal would sell her soul to the highest bidder. She's very sarcastic when cornered, and can dodge a pointed question for hours. Her public speaking skills are excellent, yet her one on one conversations tend to seem forced.

She has a fiery temper which drives her in everything she does--including her latest plot to join the human resistance. She views everything, even betraying her race, as a means to an end. Cold and calculating, she's never really had a true friend, preferring to trust only herself. Nalisia will hold a grudge for as long as it takes her to get revenge, even over petty disagreements. She keeps her motivations for anything a secret, as they often promote only her own, selfish ends.

!!!Physical Description:

Nalisia's outward personality matches her appearance. She's a tiny waif, barely 5'1" tall and very thin for her size. Her body gives off an aura of defenselessness, matched by the lack of strong muscle. Her small frame often seems overwhelmed by her long mass of shiny copper hair. It reaches the bottom of her delicate ribcage, although most days she plaits it upwards and out of her way. Nal's high, sharp cheekbones and thin lips are often strained into a smile that doesn't reach her eyes. Slate gray in color, her eyes don't show a single emotion she doesn't want them to.

A relic of a magic test gone awry at a young age, on Nal's right shoulder blade begins a small, raised pink scar that snakes down and around her nonexistent bicep, completing a full circuit before trickling off by her elbow. As a result, she rarely wears clothes with short sleeves, preferring instead to use low necklines to...."keep cool". The only reason Nal is not mistaken for a first-year student would be the minuscule curves she has. Small bust, small waist, and tiny hips are the bane of her existence. She has been known to swear that one hip sticks out farther than the other, a fact impossible since neither protrudes much at all.

!!!Inventory:

*Several sets of clothes, generally pink or purple
*Star shaped locket from her parents
*Snake ring with emerald stones

!!!Career

Student, bound to be doctor
*Slightly above-average magic skills
*Good public speaking
*Influential

!!!Goals
Main goal: Join and aid the human resistance.
Current goal: Become useful, so the resistance will actually want help.
Smaller goals:
*Learn to fight.
*Learn more perceptive magic spells.
*Find the nearest resistance agent.
*Convince agent to need her help.

Ooh, another galdor to join the resistance.. and I like the way you approach it, as a means to an end. I can't see anything wrong with this sheet and those are some great goals! You're approved, go have fun and welcome to Thorns :)

Yay, thank you! Err...I hate to ask, but do you have any suggestions as how I should begin? I read all the wiki-articles, but I'm a little overwhelmed....

Hey, don't let the whole 'new player' thing get to you, you'll get over it really quickly.

There are two ways you can get started playing: by creating your own thread or jumping in on one another player has started. There are pros and cons of both.

By creating your own thread, you can carve out a niche for your character, establish her as a personality, and make a name by doing something different or eventful (i.e. Nauleth's duel with Sid). If you keep it open, anybody can play, but be careful not to have too free a storyline or you might find it toubleing attempting to pick a direction for your character. You've got some pretty set goald for Nalisia, which is awesome; see if you can't bank on those, either by getting in with students or teachers who might have similar mindsets (or at the very least are 'sympathisers' to the passives, as that could be a foot in the door for her).

Option two, jumping in on somebody else's thread, can also be fun. Just make sure you read it through all the way before doing so. I wouldn't suggest jumping in on a thread that's been going on for a while (anywhere beyond the first page, basically...or even if the first page is really really long--say, maybe anything beyond 6-8 posts, unless they're all super short), and stay clear of any that are specificly made for one or two other people, as those are most likely going to be (mostly) planned out. I like to jump in on pre-existing threads every so often just because I'm a goofball and I like to be an extra cog that wasn't necesarily expected (but doesn't cause too much of a problem). If you see a thread you'd be interested in joining but aren't quite sure if it's open for a directional shift in plot, try PMing the person/people involved and see if they're ok with you joining. You don't have to do that with EVERY thread, but say you jump in on one that's for the most part planned out by the participants, or has a set direction already, and your character somehow causes it to shift a little...you could make it interesting, or you could make it tense. It's one of those risky situations that, as a new player, I wouldn't suggest. That is, unless you like that sort of thing ;).

No matter what, don't be afraid to ask questions. You can talk to Cartogrephette, myself, Khymarah (aka Aussiemum), Sharkie (aka Fion), Jade (aka Nora), Tif (aka unwanderinggirl/Nauleth), and really anyone else here. We'd love to help in any way we can, and we don't bite.

Much.

Welcome to Thorns!

Well, the Welcome Wagon seems to have gotten here first, so.. what she said! :D

There are lots of good places to start as a student if you want to create your own thread. The Brunnhold page on the wiki has a list of some RP spots. You could also begin in the Stacks, since there are a lot of humans and wicks there who might share in your character's goals. It depends on if you want to start her out immediately looking for information on the resistance, or start her out casual and ease her into it.
