!!!Backstory

Luke Fletcher never had any parents, and never wanted any. He and his little sister Irene had been abandoned at the ages of 5 and 2 respectively to be raised in an overcrowded orphanage in the Soot District. His childhood was typical, and while there were certainly hardships Luke had come to understand at a young age that the best thing to do was to work hard and everything would turn out okay for him. As soon as he was old enough, Luke left the orphanage to work at the steel mill. It was hard work, but steady, and even young Luke could never stand to remain idle.

For a while, this went well. The money wasn't good, but it was enough to pay the rent in what was lovingly referred to as a "bachelors' tenement" every week, with enough left over after bills to buy himself a pint at whatever pub he was frequenting at the time. A comfortable existence, if not an easy one or one with much excess. Sometime in those years Irene married a much older baker, and before she was 20 had their first child.

This was, of course, until Luke lost the little finger of his left hand. It had been long enough that Luke had gotten careless, and he let his finger get far too close to the belt. This was devastating to Luke, who was told not to come back to work until he'd regained full functionality in his hand. Luckily for him, Irene's husband was more than willing to help his wife's brother through such a difficult time financially, as the bakery was doing well and he could well afford to. But Luke resented it, never having been one for relying entirely on others. As soon as he was able, Luke was back at work. The accident is still relatively fresh on his mind, and it is one of the few things he will not speak on in great detail.

!!!Personality

Luke is a small man of big gestures. He talks, eats, laughs and loves with much enthusiasm. He laughs often, and it is a loud, obnoxious sound bordering on the braying. Luke gives the impression of a simple man with nothing to hide. For the most part, this impression is quite accurate-- Luke has few secrets, and little interest in keeping them. He was never very clever, often missing subtler points. Though he can keep no secrets himself, it is very easy to keep a secret from him, as he will never notice anything is amiss. His inability to pick up on little hints and clues often gets him into trouble, especially in personal relationships, as things that would be obvious to anyone else completely escape Luke. His unwillingness to judge others means he is easily duped, and it's hard for him to distinguish between good people and bad people.

!!!Physical Description

Luke is a short man at 5'5", with broad shoulders and a medium-set frame. Even aside from the missing finger, Luke is a battered, scarred thing from many years of carelessness. His hair is a sort of chestnut shade, and his eyes are grey. His face is slightly squared and very mildly handsome, if you don't look too closely. His ears, however, are a little over-large and stick out from his mess of hair no matter what he does. It is rare to see him with a serious or sad expression-- only Irene is really familiar with it.
