Wendy's Letter and What Became of Vala (I-30, Evening) (LIT)
There are times when your life is like an hour glass. Things drip slowly and time seems to run in the same way. Days float by and the scenery barely changes, save for the season and the trees and their leaves. In the market certain fruits or vegetables would change. Slowly, if it was expected, people walked out of your life.
But sometimes, like an hour glass, the sand comes to a halt and whatever powers may be take it by its beams and flip it over. Things become very different, and things rush by very fast. In an instant the familiar is gone, and the sand comes tumbling down on you, putting a heavy weight on your shoulders.
When Vala read Wendy's note, she was stuck with a dilemma. She had been mad at her, for saying she was simple, for bossing her around, for treating her like a child. Even in her note she called her silly. It infuriated her for a moment. She thrashed about her room talking to herself about the nerve, of the absolute nerve...
But in an hour or so of time, Vala had calmed down. She'd shed some tears. She'd pouted angrily, she punched a pillow. Her emotions raged and nothing made sense. An old 'friend,' maybe not even a friend anymore, was in trouble, and there was a chance that if she hid information she would be in trouble.
She paced and thought and swore and raged. I'll turn her in and save my skin. I'll be a traitor and end up hurting her, and what kind of person would I be? It'd be fun to turn her in out of spite. See how silly I am NOW Wendy... But is letting someone who only was trying to do what was best for you get hurt a way of thanking them for all their worry and kindness?
With a deep sigh and a sniffle, Vala swallowed her pride. With her pride, she swallowed the note that Wendy had given her after memorizing every word. She would help Wendy now, because with time, things only changed. Vala knew she would change, and she would grow.
"If I was so silly, she wouldn't trust me with a note so important," Vala decided on. "So to her, I must not be so silly after all." Vala swallowed the last bit of paper and plopped onto her bunk.
One day, she'd find Wendy again and give it to her, all in one blow. She'd say all she thought now about Wendy. She'd let the venom sink in with one nasty bite.
But, things change and maybe she wouldn't want to say anything to her at all.
