 Fion Smith
Name: Fion Smith (known to the freedom fighters as Gamze) Age: Stated as 25 Race: Human Place of Origin: The Stacks
Backstory: Fion grew up in the Stacks and it’s one of the few things she’s honest about. She was born to tavern owners whose business went belly-up when she was 11. Fortunately she’d already learnt the basics of bar-wenching, drink mixing and pre-emptive tip gathering by that point and her mother had partially trained her in dressmaking and mending, to help save money. She spent the next few years taking advantage of her developing physical assets and tried to pick up as many skills as she could from friendly punters. Her parents disappeared from her life during this time and she’s habitually evasive as to what happened to them. They might be dead, they might have disowned her or they might have simply moved to another city. Fion believes their whereabouts are her business alone. Fion maintains that she got married when she was 16 but that her husband, a wick named Loki Smith, tragically died soon after. In her sorrow she left the Stacks for Vienda, somewhere large enough to get lost in and safe enough to raise their as-yet unborn child. In reality Fion had an ill-advised one-night stand with a galdori on Clocks eve and then ran away to Vienda to save her child and herself from life on the fringes. It took her a while but she now earns enough to comfortably pay the rent on a small house near the outskirts of the Painted Ladies. She makes sure to mourn her fictional husband’s death every year, as quietly and as conspicuously as possible. Fion currently makes a living as a barmaid and seamstress. Her needlework is known for its durability and quiet flare. Fion is always listening in on other people’s conversations and many rely on her friendly ear. She uses this maternal image like a weapon and she quietly sidelines as an informant for the freedom fighters. Fion is a little scared of the freedom fighters but she views them as a means to a better life for her child and she’s always ready to cut and run if need be.
Fion’s home: Fion lives in a little, purple townhouse. It has roughly two storeys, if you count the roof-space she’s converted into a room for her son. She uses the front room for her business and it’s constantly cluttered with dress-makers mannequins, colourful cloths, measuring tape, chalk and pin cushions. The back half of the house includes a kitchen with a small dining table, a tiny room she uses as her bedroom and reasonable enough backyard. She has fairly easy access to water, so she does all her washing in the yard and hangs it on an old clothes horse. She also has a small vegetable patch. The front of Fion's home is quite cheery. It has a freshly painted sign advertising her business and some small, sickly flowers that her son cultivates. The sign says, "Dressmakers: please knock!" The exclamation mark has been recently appended and the paint is slightly newer.
Personality: Publicly, Fion worships the Circle Gods, among friends she holds to the tenets of Vita but inside her head she believes in none of them and this makes her feel quite alone. Fion genuinely cares about everyone she meets but she trusts almost no one and she’s wary of the galdori. She is constantly doing small favours for others within her community and while she’d never deny someone in need, she does make note of people that favour her for her generosity of spirit. Fion likes animals and she has a pet bander wolf. It was an extravagant present from a wick admirer several years ago. She would have passed it on since it’s an odd pet for a townswoman to have but it’s helped cement her reputation as a benny woman and it’s good for company and keeping an eye on her boy. Fion doesn’t have many obvious skills aside from developed abilities with alcohol and needle, along with a way with people. She wasn’t bad at picking pockets when she was younger but she doesn’t do it much now, for many reasons. Her penultimate asset is her curvy body, which attracts men while making her seems non-threatening. She never lets anyone touch her because that would compromise the last gun in her arsenal, her reputation. She is mildly romantically frustrated because of this.
Fion's son: Fion’s son Piran is currently 8, he has pale hazel eyes and brownish hair. He suffered from a wasting sickness when he was younger (or so Fion says), so he’s less developed than other boys his age. He’s quite clever though and he’s currently learning how to craft with clay. Fion is quietly afraid, with reason, that people will realise he’s part golly. It is only her rigidly maintained reputation as a rosh that saves her and him from social devastation. Fion knows just how unpopular the galdori have become and she is not going to risk Piran becoming a casualty of racial tension. Piran does not know that he's anything other than part wick and he believes his mother when she says his magic is too weak for casting spells. Piran has most of his mother's nature and probably all of his father's looks, whoever his father might have been. He listens to and adores his mother but he has a dangerous interest in the galdori. Fion tries to keep him among humans, who can't recognise the magic in him but his innocent curiosity is hard to check.
Appearance: Fion has black hair and blue eyes. She has fairly pale skin but this is because she spends most of her time indoors. She’s pretty enough although a little tired around the edges, witty without being cruel about it and shaped roughly like a very sensual peanut. Fion uses what she’s got but she’s aware that most of her resources are finite. Fion is about 170cm tall, she has a few freckles on her cheeks and quite good teeth. Her ears are pierced and she habitually wears small silver hoops through them. She wears her hair up, wrapped in dark blue cloth and all of her jewellery is cheap, save a small pendant she keeps attached to a leather cord round her neck and usually tucked between her breasts. The pendant is a jade wolf and a keepsake from her mother. It has no significance aside from sentimentality. She wears clothes that are form-fitting but she keeps her dresses long and her neck lines fairly low. She usually carries a small dagger strapped to her thigh.
Inventory: Dark blue hair-cloth. Several linen shirts, mostly white and dark green. Five skirts, two brown, two green and one patchwork (made from colourful leftovers of previous jobs and saved for special occasions) Two brown pairs of pants. A thick, white cotton apron, unstained but worn from wear and washing. Her apron pockets are usually filled with miscellaneous leather ties, handkerchiefs, pieces of paper, threads, needles and small keepsakes like shiny stones. One pair of silver earrings. One jade pendant. Numerous cheap but pretty bangles. One leather belt with an ornate buckle. One small dagger. A pet bander wolf (male) with black stripes and blue eyes (colours chosen deliberately by the man that gifted it). Answers to Stride or Stripes (when Piran is calling).
Career: Barmaid, seamstress and informant. Fion works as a barmaid at night and a seamstress during the day. The freedom fighters contact her mainly through her dressmaking business and occasionally while she’s tending bar. Fion currently works at the Paper Tiger, from the first to the fourth and the sixth to the ninth.
Goals: Fion’s main goal in life is to provide a solid future for her son. In the short term that means getting him an apprenticeship and making sure that anything that could threaten their current life is removed as quickly as possible. Fion started aiding the freedom fighters to this end. Fion has some issues about Piran’s father and would quite like to resolve them if ever given a clean opportunity. She craves stability, safety and happiness.

 Re: Fion Smith
This is a very well-thought-out character, and I believe the first character to have a son! Good names all around, too. I will go ahead and add "Smith" to your login name, just a heads-up. I'm a little unclear right now as to why people would think her son is part-galdor, unless his father was a wick. At eight, children have a semi-developed field, so he wouldn't be mistaken for partially magical unless he was. Perhaps you could clear that bit up for me? After that, I think you're fine, I will approve this sheet once you've made your edits Also, an RP note. If your character's son features into any of the roleplay, his actions will be controlled by a moderator. We'll try to play him exactly as you've written him, so if you'd like to go into a bit more detail about his personality, we can tailor the NPC to your liking. As for the bar thing, the Paper Tiger is a relatively upscale bar, run by humans, so Fion could try to get a job there if she applied. In fact, that would make a very good entry thread. (I love the part about the sensual peanut, that's a wonderful description!)

 Re: Fion Smith
Damn, didn't think about magical fields... Thank you for telling me. I was hoping to imply that Piran was half galdor without having to say. I wasn't sure if he was but Fion is the type to worry about appearance... and the race riots that might just be coming.

 Re: Fion Smith
Stacks for the win! I'm sorry, she ran away though. She might come back though, given incentive!
