Looking Down on the World: Intas 1st, evening ((Sarinah))
The shadows were long as the pair trotted out of Crosstown Court, and out of the caoja that the Tall Trees had plunked together. It had been a great deal of fun, but Rovin Martin had decided to take Sarinah to see something.
Still holding her hand, he ducked around from shadow to shadow, out of the lamplights, and into the richer portions of Uptown, where all the buildings began to grow taller and taller.
One of such buildings, a very nice, tall one, had a series of stairs along the side, probably an apartment building, just in case of a fire. Grinning widely, Rovin took to the stairs, but was careful enough to not rush ahead of Sarinah. He realized she was in shape, but even on something as random and wild as this, he didn't want to lose her. "C'mon. Told ya'd not've seen this b'fore!"
Once they reached the very top of the steps, the roof was very flat, though apparently never used. Rov strode around a bit, and then sat down on the edge of the building, looking out over the city. It was so high up here, one could see nearly the whole of Vienda, from the heights of Uptown where they were, all the way down to the Dives, with Cook's out there somewhere, so small and insignificant to the rest of the mass of people and buildings.
"...I like t'come here t'think." He said, putting his heels over the edge of the roof, apparently having no fear of heights, "...Really puts things'in perspective... So many kovs an'chips jus'goin' around. Livin'. Bein'. Jus'goin' on with it all in this little war. People lookin' f'more, an' other people not wantin t'lose the power they got."
Rovin nearly frowned, but his features somehow seemed incapable of giving a disgusted looking face. He always was smiling, or smirking for one reason or another, but right now, it wasn't so very in his voice.
"S'kinda pathetic..." He turned to face her, "People, I'mean."
By this time, Wraith had made it up the stairs, the bander panting, and padded over once more, curling up behind the two, seeming more than comfortable to collapse right there.

Sarinah held Rovin's hand lightly, her curiosity perked. Leading her out of the caoja, she wondered where they were going. The night air was cool and everything was so empty, most residents of the city either at the Ball or the Caoja. Following the mysterious wick, he led her up a set of side stairs on a rather tall building. As Rovin let go of her hand, Sarinah walked behind him and stopped. It was absolutely breath taking. You could see the whole of Vienda. The Caoja was a beautiful, blinking coloured lights and occasional fireworks. The ball was a twinkling of pale orange light and glittering reflections. Everything else was almost dark, with just a smattering of lights here and there. Out in the dives she spotted a few red lights, the telltale red lanterns outside of Cooks' Place. Quote: "...I like t'come here t'think." He said, putting his heels over the edge of the roof, apparently having no fear of heights, "...Really puts things'in perspective...
"S'kinda pathetic..." He turned to face her, "People, I'mean." She sat down beside him, dangling her legs over the side. It was a long way down and she felt a little giddy, but it was too beautiful to be afraid. A light breeze blew her hair gently around her face, as she reached up to tuck a loose lock behind her ear. Behind them, a bander had plopped down. Sarinah had noticed him following them and assumed he belonged to Rovin. She looked at the man. "It is pathetic. Everyone is caught up in the rat race. So consumed with living out their lives, they never stop to really live them." She sighed and looked out across the town. "Even a laoso chip like me. I never set out to do this Rovin. I drifted from my home, ready to settle down. Benny job, start a family. But working at Cooks, things changed. I changed. Sometimes I want to dust, but it ent as easy as that. You start working at the Place, you die working at the Place." Looking at him, she laughed. "Look at me, making it sound like a prison. It's not. I think I even enjoy the work. Having kov's practically worshiping the ground I stand on every night, its powerful stuff. But I'm a long way from the innocent boch that left Dorhaven."

"Look at me, making it sound like a prison. It's not. I think I even enjoy the work. Having kov's practically worshiping the ground I stand on every night, its powerful stuff. But I'm a long way from the innocent boch that left Dorhaven." Rovin Martin chuckled as she finished, and then paused for a few very long, silent seconds, just watching the fireworks go off over the caoja.
"Mmm...Y'didn't dress like yeh'were innocent, tha's for sure." He turned his head to regard her for a moment, apply a wink, and returned his gaze to the lights and the party. "But yer'righ'. A prison, it's not."
He reclined a little, seeming to regard the stars warily. "Fate. S'a thing that y'hear all over Anaxas, but never really see. Kinda like th'Gods." He leaned his hands back, so that they were supporting his stance. His finger bumped Sarinah's hand, but he didn't look like he was attempting to hold it or anything. The male seemed far too lost in thought. "Out've all th'lies that run about in this country, Fate'as to be the most wild an' dangerous... a revolution be damned. Look'it all 'ose houses, all 'ose people in that rat race.. 'ow many of 'em would pick up an' leave if they knew 'ey had another chance..? Didn't 'ave t'be beat up on by th'galdor, didn't 'ave t'be livin' a scrap life out in the slums."
Martin shook his head, dreads moving after, seemingly disgusted by the world that had been placed before him... the way people behaved. He looked over to Sarinah, and turned about a little, pointing generally northish. "Y'see tha'way? Tha's Doorhaven. Home." He eyed her a second, "But d'ya know what's beyond tha'?" Most didn't. Most people never traveled as much as Martin, and he'd been through the run of all Anaxas. "Tha' Wraithwine woods, 'lil Knowles, the tors, marshlands, an' 'en Mugroba. Millions 'o possibilities for a whole 'nother life.. an' yet, no takers. 'Cause this's easier."
He took her shoulder lightly, but just to help her turn with him, actually completely having forgotten that he was with a very attractive woman, so lost in his speech.
"An' tha' way?" He pointed the opposite direction, southeast. All that could be seen was a bit of the land in the darkness past Vienda's walls. "Farmin' country. Surwood an' Virthmore, an' even beyon' tha'? Islands full 'o wild thin's that no one 'round here imagine."
He turned them again, actually managing by turning to be behind her, his arm pointing out west over her right shoulder, and his head next to her's, over her left. "An' tha' way? If you're brave 'nough, hug th'river an' avoid the hatcher lands, Anhau's tha' way, then the mountains, an' then beyon' tha', who bloody even knows?" The last seemed to excite him, the possibilities of what lay beyond those tyrannical mountains.
"Y'see.. Fate isn'there. Y'can get free'of Cooks anytime y'wish. You could go in any direction yer pretty min' could set on. An' if you didn't tell a soul, not one 'uv 'em could stop ya, or find ya. 'ere's this whole WORLD out 'ere, sittin' an waitin' for all 'uv us.. An' yet all these folk are pleased t'sit by while th'galdor enslave an' kill us off? Nhaw, I say. Freedom. Real freedom's the answer. We dun'need to bring 'em down, or even bother with 'em."
He turned towards her, his face actually rather close now, "What'd all the gollys do if jus' one day, all'uv their servants just left? All th'towns folk for 'em to pick on just...picked up? They wouldn't know what t'do! Not a soul t'do their laundry for 'em an' 'em to beat on."
Rovin Martin looked back towards the lights, of people celebrating existing as he did, but only for one night, his cheek nearly touching Sarinah's. "...Always a way t'live. Bein' stamped on's easier, 'tho." His voice held a twinge of regret.

Sarinah listened and watched, letting him guide her through his speech. She was amazed at how deep and inciteful it was. There was more to this kov then met the eye. He was more than a magician, he was a traveler, a poet. He loved the land and seemed so angry that people let themselves be walked on. Quote: "An' tha' way? If you're brave 'nough, hug th'river an' avoid the hatcher lands, Anhau's tha' way, then the mountains, an' then beyon' tha', who bloody even knows?" The last seemed to excite him, the possibilities of what lay beyond those tyrannical mountains. She listened to the change in his voice. It was actually a thrill to him, the idea of travelling where he'd never been before. Part of her felt the excitement along with him. Quote: "Y'see.. Fate isn'there. Y'can get free'of Cooks anytime y'wish. You could go in any direction yer pretty min' could set on. An' if you didn't tell a soul, not one 'uv 'em could stop ya, or find ya. Her eye's sparked with idea's. He was right, she knew he was. The sheer thought of just running away from it all was almost enough to make her leave right now. But she wasn't ready yet. She had grown up learning that home is somewhere you can settle down, the idea of making home where you lay your head was almost terrifying. Quote: He turned towards her, his face actually rather close now, "What'd all the gollys do if jus' one day, all'uv their servants just left? All th'towns folk for 'em to pick on just...picked up? "You make it all sound so easy. And fun, the traveling. If only everyone could see that way Rovin." She reached up and stroked his cheek with the back of her hand. "We could do that you know. Set the wheels in motion. I would plant the seed through the Place, you could do it through your magic." Her eyes seemed far away, thoughts of leading a rebellion dancing in her head. Smiling, she mentally pushed them away. "Silly, I know. But the thought is nice. I can't leave Cook's without some cash behind me. And I don't want to be alone." She thought about spending night after night alone in forests and side roads, traveling from place to place. It just wasn't something she could see herself doing. It wasn't that she was scared, she just didn't like being alone. It was depressing. "Thank you Rovin, for opening my eyes." She said, brushing her thumb across his lips softly. He had re-opened a part of her heart and mind that she had locked away in the years she had worked for Cook. Hesitantly, she leaned forward slightly and kissed him on the corner of the mouth, almost on the cheek. She wasn't sure what Rovin was feeling right now, and didn't want to disrespect him by assuming he would want a brothel dancer giving him a proper, passionate kiss. Although her entire body screamed with the urge to do so. Her heart was racing, pounding hard in her chest.

Despite the undertones, Rov was honestly surprised when she leaned in. He was still off in his own head, wondering about life, people, and the world as a whole. He saw it coming, and completely on instinct, turned into it. He returned the kiss back, but it was less hormone driven passion, and more of an accepting, free-loving kind of affection, and it had a certain level of chasteness to it. They were simply two wicks who had come to a complete and utter understanding of the other. He didn't press it further at all, and he honestly didn't feel the need to act as a typical male.
It was actually Rovin who pulled back first. Honestly, Wraith, watching from a few feet back, was surprised to all hell. Where is that rope-haired wick, and what has he done with Rovin? the equivalent of doggy-thoughts rolled through his brain.
Martin wrapped his arms about Sarinah in a hug, a tight friendly one, and then released her, or at least let her pull away at her leisure.
"Y'never know, 'bout bein' alone," he said quietly, "Never know who'll show up on th'road..."
Her own words had sounded like a kind of farewell, so he tactfully and gently detangled himself from her, and stood, finding his pack and hefting it over his shoulder. His bander companion stood and trotted up next to him, who received a pat on the head.
He began to turn to go, but looked over his shoulder at her, only half of his tanned face hidden by the dreadlocks. "Maybe I'll find ya on th'road, mm?" He said, with a smile that she knew that he had to have used in his magic shows, and then his look softened significantly, that deep inner self rising to the surface again, "Keep y'self well, rosh." He said, "I do hope to meet y'again."
And with that, in a pace that she knew would have been reserved for walking endless miles, Rovin Martin, magician, philosopher, trickster, thief, and traveler, descended the stairs out of her field of vision.
There was one last parting gift however, for before leaving the rooftop, Wraith bounded over to her, looking very athletic and fit for a bander, gave her a stare of yellow eyes for two full seconds that she could almost read as I approve of you., and she recieved a quick lap across the face, before the animal turned and ran after his companion at a full tilt.

Sarinah watched the tall, wonderfully deep man walk into the darkness and disappear. She hadn't expected him to be so much more than just a curiously familiar face in a crowd. But Rovin had opened her eyes and her heart towards possibilities she forgot she had. He'd awoken her dreams again. The bander behind her approached, and looked at her with its amazing yellow eyes, then gave her a quick lick before bounding off. Part of Sarinah felt something like acceptance then. She smiled, wiping her cheek. Sitting on the roof top still, she looked across the town again, wondering where Rovin would take himself from here. She hoped he wouldn't be a stranger for long, and perhaps he was right. "See you on the road, kov." She said quietly, watching the world go by.
