So, Siduri and I have been discussing an RP in the Past involving a duel and Naul's brailing. I thought I'd open up a thread here in RP discussion just for suggestions and/or mod comments instead of mass-PMing people. I'm a big fan of some open plotting, mostly because I'm not always good at filling in holes even when I can clearly see a beginning and an end.

What 'ave we got so far?

Naul's dad is a politician in Vienda. Siduri is now an clerk for a politician in Vienda. Naul's dad? Yes plz. I think it'd be a convenient rivalry - Siduri's professional aims vs. Naul's personal desires for approval/attention.

That's probably good enough grounds for a lot of in-school rivalry there. Even though Siduri is two years Naul's elder, it is possible they had a class together or have met before in passing, possibly even around Naul's dad.

Naul would be very happy to take advantage of harassing Siduri about his mixed heritage, and if he were to ever find out of his Passive parents, it'd be quite a mess.

So, I guess if we did RP in the past with the duel, it would be pre-determined. We all know now how it ends, even if I am not sure what spell would be brailed to end it.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Objections? Shoot!

Given Naul's propensity towards offensive magic and unprovoked attacks, I could see that having something to do with it. For the mona to have some sort of lasting grudge against Naul, his offense would have to be worse than simply messing up a spell's recitation. He'd have to go against the noble uses of magic or do something to shame himself. Casting out of pure anger or greed or hatred, combined with serious error, could have that effect.

Story-wise, what you've come up with so far seems great to me. I bet this is going to be very enlightening about both your characters!

Yay! I figured Naul would have to be acting under less-than-noble intentions for anything severe to happen, so I've no objections to that. It's not like that's a stretch or anything.

I'm guessing the best way to put this together would be a Lit thread or two (perhaps a before & after) in addition to a past duel with RP?

There is one thing I noticed when reading through profiles. Nauleth's dad is specifically described as a high-level politician, while Siduri's employer is specifically described as low-level. Tres ironic, no? Might need a minor edit to my page.

Oh. I didn't put that together. Bad me. Erm. Which one needs fixing? I am fine, either way. Mine or yours.

I have no preference either way. . .I'd have to think about how each would affect the plot and how.

I think you could still work it. How mad would Naul be if his dad seemed to be taking interest in a "lowly public servant" and not him? It could start off as taunts and move onto a full scale cranky boy-fight.

By the results of things, cranky boy-fight is definitely an understatement.

Well, I am thankful for the feedback. I think I will post up an in-the-past Lit thread soon, and then maybe Siduri and Naul can throw spells at each other after that.

I agree with Fion. People are complex and it's not out of the question that a high-level politician would favor a low-level guy if he saw promise in him. it would add some more intrigue to the story.

I'm so excited. I'm going to sit in chorus now and instead of thinking about how bad everybody else in the tenor section is and how melancholy that makes me, I will make a list of rude things to insult Naul with. . . .heh. . .

It's okay. I sat through dinner trying to think of a good order of spells and mean things to say.

I'm guessing we'll throw insults and spells around for a bit, but I thought a good way to make sure the mona stays angry is for Naul to go for Siduri when he's down or it's over and then get told to stop by someone of authority and brail and ... oh noes. Boom. End of thread.

That makes perfect sense to me. Since Siduri has no family he can fall back on for support if he runs afoul of the Brunnhold administration, I think he would be far more inclined to follow orders if, say, they told him to stop what he was doing, even in the middle of a fight.
