Alone at Night, Road to Dorhaven - Intas 4th, Late Evening.
Sarinah pulled the blanket she had bought closer around her shoulders, sitting close to her small campfire. It was still quite cool at night, and although she had her bedding and a warm fire, part of her felt chilled. She had set up a small camp in a little clearing just left of the road from Vienda to Dorhaven, after riding her horse all after noon, she had just had to stop because she couldn't see in front of them anymore. Although she was armed and more than capable of defending herself, it was still a little frightening to be alone in the woods.
Eating the last of the travel biscuit she had been chewing on, she pulled her fur sleeping cover closer to the fire and lay down, covering herself with the blanket. Her horse was tied to a tree just within the range of the fire light and she felt that if something did come, it would scare the horse and alert her. She took the saber out of its sheath and lay it in front of her, hand on the hilt. Laying quietly, she watched the fire crackling, hoping morning would come quickly.

Re: Alone at Night, Road to Dorhaven - Intas 4th, Late Evening.
He'd ducked out of Vienda as quickly as he could, as soon as he'd heard the news. Some explosion in his hometown, the galdor having harmed some humans, possibly some kind of experiment or accident, and it didn't surprise him. He'd been run out of the town by the galdor government when he was a child, so it wasn't out of the question to hear such things coming out of Doorhaven again.
So, why now, was Rovin Martin on the road? Honestly, he wasn't very sure. The caoja was over, and that definitely left Vienda, town of the seventen and the law, as a place Rov didn't really need to be.
He'd heard around the place though, about Doorhaven, and though he'd cut his emotional ties with the place years ago... it was interesting. He almost wanted to see those familiar streets again. He wanted to see what those goofy galdori were up to this time, and who's life they were ruining. Perhaps, while he was there, he'd even rob a house or two in payment to those served, leaving coin purses on gravestones... or something. He'd come up with something symbolic when he got there.
Wraith padded along beside him on the road as well, his yellow eyes glowing as the moonlight reflected off of them. A moment later, his ears perked up and his tail rose... was that actually moonlight off of his eyes or..
Rov spotted the camp site. He wasn't sure of who exactly was staying there, but the way on the road, especially for wicks, entailed sitting around the fire and telling stories, so, Wraith and he approached openly, right in the middle of the road and taking a straight line for the light.
When he was within range, he called "Oi! Traveler! Y'mind if ye'share yer'blaze?", an old saying that the nomadic spokes frequently asked. It was mostly done so that, especially during the cover of night, the person who had set up the camp site knew that someone was approaching, not to take them by surprise.
Within a few more seconds, Rov and Wraith would both become illuminated by the firelight and be able to be seen, and Rovin would also have a pleasant surprise of his own.

Quote: "Oi! Traveler! Y'mind if ye'share yer'blaze?", Sarinah jumped, gripping the saber. She hadn't expected voices to yell out from the darkness and it startled her. She recognized the phrase almost immediately, but it was still unsettling. Throwing back the blanket, she stood up, holding the saber pointed down in one hand, ready to strike if she needed to, and the sheath in the other. Two figures became illuminated in the firelight as they approached, and within seconds Sarinah released the breath she didn't realize she had been holding. "Rovin! Vrunta! You startled me!" She said shakily, putting the saber in its sheath and throwing it at her feet. Running her hands through her hair to get it out of her face, she half smiled. The man and his bander were a sight most welcome. "But I'll admit, its very good to see you. This traveling business can do your head in at night." She laughed a little nervously, feeling incredibly foolish for reacting like a frightened boch. But truth be told, it was down right creepy on your own in the unfamiliar darkness.

"But I'll admit, its very good to see you. This traveling business can do your head in at night." She laughed a little nervously, feeling incredibly foolish for reacting like a frightened boch. But truth be told, it was down right creepy on your own in the unfamiliar darkness. Rov put on his magician's smile, pushing the dirty joke out of his head. Though humor might appease one wrought with fear, considering the last meeting he'd had with this woman, he didn't want to begin on the wrong foot at all. Besides, Wraith would probably de-ankle him.
Coming over, Martin picked up a stick and nudged the fire with it. Her fire circle was a little rough around the edges, that lending itself to her tenancy to settle down and not require a fire, but it wasn't too bad at all. It functioned, and that was all that mattered. He prided himself on his fire rings, because more often than not, it was the only real sentiment he had of a 'home'.
Which was ironic, considering where he was going.
Ceasing his internalization, Rov looked up and smiled back at her, "S'good to see you too again. Figure y'heard about Door..err. Home?" The concept of 'home' was very foreign to the man.
Regardless, however, Rovin walked around the fire to plop down unceremoniously next to Sarinah. He nudged the fire with a stick and smiled at her.
"Th'road isn't so bad if you've got someone t'keep y'sane."

"Th'road isn't so bad if you've got someone t'keep y'sane." Sarinah sat down beside the man and gestured to Wraith with her chin. The bander seemed to have so much character, she was sure it understood what they were saying. "Is that why you got him? To keep you sane?." Staring at the fire, she watched Rovin poke it with a stick. She had never had to set up a hearth of her own, and she wondered if she had done it right. "Yes, I'm going home. I need to see whether I'm going to be one of the only Yellow Eye left in Vita." Tears stung her eyes and she shook her head. The stories she had heard before leaving Vienda were awful. A lot of people had lost family and friends and the town seemed to be grieving as a whole. If she came across a galdor in Dorhaven she was going to kill them on sight. And eye for an eye. She looked at Rovin. "Do you have family in Dorhaven?"

Quote: "Is that why you got him? To keep you sane?." Martin shook his head a little, dreads going this way and that, "Ended up gettin' me, so t'speak. Came along wit'our caravan as I moved out o'Doorhaven."
He sat quietly, frowning as he saw budding tears in Sarinah's eyes, listening to her tale.Quote: "Do you have family in Dorhaven?" "..No' really. Da' got lynched, an' never knew my mom. Ran out after she 'ad 'er way with a human." He shrugged, and spoke this all in a very monotone voice, as if the emotional cuts had healed, but going over them was picking at the scabs. "Jus' goin' t'see what's become of th'place since I left. Was just a kid, after all."
He looked over at her, and leaned around so that he could help tuck the blanket in around her shoulders a little more, and then reclined back fully on the ground, putting his hands behind his head, and staring up to the stars. "You're quite brave comin' out 'ere all alone like tha', y'know."
His tone was one of admiration, and finally pushing the emotional pain in the back of his throat under his words.

At first he seemed so aloof, but once he started talking he came out with the most intersting things. "Brave? Your too kind. I wasn't really thinking. I heard about Dorhaven and just left. Your words the other night helped, I think. Gave me the courage to do it." She shook her head. "I don't think I'd call it brave though. Stupid maybe? Cook is going to have an absolute fit." A soft chuckle escaped her lips. She stretched out, leaned back on her elbow and rest her head on her hand. Smirking at him, she reached over to poke him in the rib. "I'm glad your here. I don't think I can handle Dorhaven alone right now. I need a friend, I don't have many of those. The new blacksmith seems nice, but he couldn't come with me."

Quote: "Brave? Your too kind. I wasn't really thinking. I heard about Dorhaven and just left. Your words the other night helped, I think. Gave me the courage to do it." He just shrugged. Rovin really wasn't used to people telling him these things... but then again, he wasn't used to telling Sarinah the things he had been. He'd been so internalized for so long, that it felt rather good to let this all out to a beautiful woman, without the help of alcohol to loosen his tongue. He gave her a look that was welcoming, but it didn't seem to make his ego inflate much at all.Quote: "I don't think I'd call it brave though. Stupid maybe? Cook is going to have an absolute fit." A soft chuckle escaped her lips. She stretched out, leaned back on her elbow and rest her head on her hand. Smirking at him, she reached over to poke him in the rib. "Then 'e can deal with th'loss t'his profits for a bit, can't 'e?" Martin said, grinning, and caught her finger in his hand as she poked him. He was used to children's tag games, but he lightly held her finger there, not really to the point where if she wanted it back she couldn't have it, but still, playfully, he had her. Quote: "I'm glad your here. I don't think I can handle Dorhaven alone right now. I need a friend, I don't have many of those. The new blacksmith seems nice, but he couldn't come with me." Still holding onto her single finger, Rov nodded, almost as if he'd forgotten about it. "No'everyone can jus'pick up'n leave like us." He said, that deepening tone falling into his voice, "Most people're still stuck to th'rat race."
He smiled over to her though, patting the back of her hand with his free one, "Nice t'have a friend that can talk back. Looks aside!" Rovin chuckled, without the slightest hint of blush to him. Wraith seemed to notice he was being talked about, and strode over, curling up on the other side of Sarinah, and making himself comfortable, wrapping himself into a little ball.

The dancer smiled as the bander came over. He was really a beautiful creature. Turning back to Rovin, she looked down at his hand holding her finger. Pulling her finger out gently, she rolled his hand over to expose his palm, stroking it softly, running her fingers along the cuff of his sleeve. "So, is that all you think of me Rovin Martin? Someone who can just talk back to you?" She said teasingly, raising an eyebrow, looking through a lock of fallen hair, sly smile on her lips.

Re: Alone at Night, Road to Dorhaven - Intas 4th, Late Evening.
Quote: "So, is that all you think of me Rovin Martin? Someone who can just talk back to you?" She said teasingly, raising an eyebrow, looking through a lock of fallen hair, sly smile on her lips. If that statement was a pistol, not only would it be loaded, but it would be sitting next to a roaring bondfire, waiting for the ordinance to explode, and both of them knew it.
In years past, Rovin Martin was of the mind to take what you get from the world, and give absolutely nothing back. He'd stolen nearly every chance that he'd gotten, did magic tricks in front of crowds, openly deceiving them for money, and had had his share of whirlwind relationships with women that had just not bothered with him the next day, and he was fine with that.
But for some reason this one was clicking differently in his head. Maybe it was the fact that he in fact was worried about Doorhaven, maybe he felt that this one was far more beautiful than any one that he'd seen before, maybe it was out of some kind of respect, and maybe Rov was just completely losing his mind, but he could not wrap his head around milking this person of all they were worth, like he'd done many times before.
Hell. Like she was doing to him. The flirting was highly appreciated, of course, but Rovin felt... responsible. Maybe it was, that for once in his life, he saw potential in a human being, it being used for something that she essentially got stuck into, and her life being left unlived.
All this passed through Rovin's eyes as she asked him the question, and despite the gears churning in his head, he just managed to look very deep for a second or two.
Rov let his eyes drift over the woman. Slow and pointedly, and she with her profession, would probably notice it.
"Rosh..." He began, turning on his side like her, so that they faced each other and were relatively well within the other's personal bubbles, "I can think'v... a great many things that y'can do." He began, almost as if the thoughts he had just had weren't in his head in the first place.
Then, he reached out and touched a finger to her chin so that she looked at him directly, "But askin' o'such would be a disrespect t'a new friend."
There it was, about as plainly as he could put it. Was he interested? Clearly. But for perhaps the first time in Rovin Martin's life, he was actually courting a girl. A little tick in the back of his head said quietly, who knows? This could be the one.
As if he'd heard it, the bander wolf picked his head up and looked straight at him from behind Sarinah, and gave him a look, tongue lulled out of his mouth, that could not say anything more than "smooth, guy."

Re: Alone at Night, Road to Dorhaven - Intas 4th, Late Evening.
Sarinah watched the man, he looked so far away for a moment. For a moment she wondered if she had said something wrong and cursed herself and her lifestyle. It became all to easy to turn a simple conversation into something flirtatious, it was what she did. But with Rovin it was different. She meant it. His eyes focused again and she watched them rove her curves. Quote: "Rosh..." He began, turning on his side like her, so that they faced each other and were relatively well within the other's personal bubbles, "I can think'v... a great many things that y'can do." He began, almost as if the thoughts he had just had weren't in his head in the first place.
Then, he reached out and touched a finger to her chin so that she looked at him directly, "But askin' o'such would be a disrespect t'a new friend." She blushed and smiled at him. He made her feel like a person, not just a dancer in a brothel, but like she was worth something. It confused her. The professional in her knew how to make him know she was thankful, but the woman in her wanted to show him she was what he believed. That she could be more than just Cook's girl. She moved, laying flat resting her hands on her stomach. The sky was so clear out here, it was a surprise. Perhaps it had something to do with the lack of lights. Turning her face to Wraith, she smiled at the bander's expression. She could have sworn he was grinning. Sighing, she turned back to Rovin. "Are you cold?" She gestured the blanket she was half laying on. If Rovin was going to stay with her till morning, did he have his own bedding? "You can share mine if you want, nothing intended." She held up a hand and giggled. "I just mean, you can sleep beside me if you don't have your own bedding. But you have to keep your hands to yourself." She said softly, wishing for the complete opposite. But she tried to keep the thought from her words. If Rovin wanted to respect her as a friend and a woman, then she would do the same. Even if it went against everything she felt about him.

Re: Alone at Night, Road to Dorhaven - Intas 4th, Late Evening.
Wow. She was -really- nervous. She had such a calm, flirtatious exterior for the most part, but now, her stress actually showed some, which Rovin knew, was something that she was probably not used to doing. He smiled a little bit as she talked, a tiny bit of a knowing smirk creeping into it. Quote: "You can share mine if you want, nothing intended." She held up a hand and giggled.
"I just mean, you can sleep beside me if you don't have your own bedding. But you have to keep your hands to yourself." Rovin's grin was complete, and he shook his head thankfully, eyes full of mirth and humor. He eyed back to his pack, where he'd sat it down next to him, "Eh. Got m'own, but th'offer's temptin'." He said, with a little laugh.
"But." He said, something deeply mischievous in his eyes, and creeping closer, sitting on half of the bedding, "S'customary for a traveler t'give a gift t'the one who made th'camp, out've thanks f'sharin' it." Rovin specifically let his voice get a bit more sensual and suggestive, but his smirk never left his eyes, his only telltale. "So... I can't be promisin' tha' I'll be keepin' 'em off." He said this, and gave her a few seconds in which he hoped she would lose the blood flow to her brain.
Then, very sensually, he reached town and touched her bare foot, and suddenly took it, spinning her as she sat, so that her feet would be towards his head, and her own head towards his own feet. It seemed something ridiculous like the fictitious Rex Manblade would do...
And then...
He began a deep foot massage on her bare, road weary feet.
And grinned the whole time.
Off to the side, Wraith honestly gave him another look that read, ...You ass.
Rovin didn't seem to be bothered much by it. In fact, he seemed like he was on the verge of cracking up laughing, having a ball.

Sarinah grinned at him, his voice had taken on a whole new tone, but his sly smile stayed. Her heart stepped up a pace, and she watched him carefully. Quote: Then, very sensually, he reached town and touched her bare foot, and suddenly took it, spinning her as she sat, so that her feet would be towards his head, and her own head towards his own feet. The brunette let out a little shriek, caught completely by surprise. She hadn't expected it at all, reaching out to catch her skirt so it still covered her thighs. Part of her panicked a little. Was it all a facade and she was about to experience something all women dread? She still had her weapons though, but she remembered when he picked her up at the caoja. He had a thing for surprising her. And then... Quote: He began a deep foot massage on her bare, road weary feet.
And grinned the whole time. The feeling was quite like nothing she had experienced before. His firm hands pressed deeply into the soles of her feet, and it felt amazing. She lent back on her elbows and closed her eyes, relishing in the sensation. Every morning after work she would sit at home and rub her feet, but this was a different feeling. It was so much better. She shuddered deliciously and let her head drop back. "Oh, Rovin, that is good!" She said, lifting her head to look at his grinning face. Her own lips turned into a smile. "Your just full of surprises balach. I never know what to expect with you. And just when I think you don't find me attractive, you turn the other hand and, well, sweep my feet out from under me." She wiggled her toes, cocking her head to one side, watching him.

Re: Alone at Night, Road to Dorhaven - Intas 4th, Late Evening.
It was clear that Rov had done this before. His forefinger and thumb worked the muscles between her toes, and on the pads of her foot, rubbing out the stress as best he could.Quote: "Oh, Rovin, that is good!" He really laughed when she said that. He honestly hoped someone was in listening range so they could get the wrong idea.Quote: "Your just full of surprises balach. I never know what to expect with you. And just when I think you don't find me attractive, you turn the other hand and, well, sweep my feet out from under me." She wiggled her toes, cocking her head to one side, watching him. He smiled, working his way to her ankle and rubbing there too. They ended up getting more stress put on them than most people realized, and he intended on fixing that. Considering her profession, she probably had ankles that would hate her in the mornings.
"Now, don't get me wrong. Your'ttractive alright." He took his eyes off of her feet to meet her own, just to emphasize, "Very." before lowering his eyes back to his work, "I've got a habit of surprisin' people. Magician an' all." He moved to the next foot. It took several minutes, but eventually he worked out all of the stress he could find in her muscles there.
"Figure everyone needs a bit've wonder now an'then. S'pecially times like 'ese."

"Figure everyone needs a bit've wonder now an'then. S'pecially times like 'ese." Sarinah nodded, listening, but completely wrapped up in what he was doing to her feet. She watched him work, his knowing hands finding all the sore places. A little thrill went up her spine when he looked at her, it was just briefly, but enough to make her shudder again. "Yes, your right." She mumbled slightly. "The world is changing though balach, can you feel it?" Turning her head to watch the fire, she marveled at how surreal this all felt. She wondered if she had in fact fallen asleep at it was all a dream. Looking down at the man by her feet, she hoped it wasn't. It was starting to get late, and she knew they would be leaving as soon as the sky started getting light. Laying back down, she sighed, watching the firelight catch Rovin's features in a warm orange glow. Something about him stirred a feeling in her, which made her heart beat like a drum and her stomach flutter. It felt nice.

Re: Alone at Night, Road to Dorhaven - Intas 4th, Late Evening.
Quote: "The world is changing though balach, can you feel it?" Martin nodded, letting out a sigh, "Mmhmm. S'changin' alrigh'. As much as we let'it, an' as bad as we let'it." Reaching behind him, Rov used one of his own dreadlocks to tie the rest of them back in a kind of ponytail, and then reached over to his pack and removed a pillow, which he put behind his head and lay down, letting out a sigh.
"..Been a bit of a trip. An', if I'm not missin' my guess.. t'morrow might be a bigger one."
He edged to the side a little, allowing Sarinah plenty of room next to him, and then closed his eyes. This was a first too. He wouldn't have let a woman who intended on sleeping around him move without keeping an eye on her, but to his surprise, he trusted this one.
So, he put his hands behind his head, and relaxed. Tomorrow would be a huge trip, but now, for a change, he had a new ally next to him.
A very welcome thought.

Sarinah watched him settle down for the night and did the same, covering herself with the blanket she had been gaining so much comfort from before. Closing her eyes, she wondered with a little twinge of fear just how bad Dorhaven was going to be.
But at least now she had someone there with her.
