 Madd Molly Scarlette
''Name:''' Molly Scarlette
'''Age:''' 23
'''Race:''' human
'''Place of Origin:''' On the open seas

!!!Backstory

Molly never knew her mother, but she was told by her father that she was born in the worst tempest the sea had ever thrown at a seagoing vessel. Her father was the first mate of a ship, a pirate ship she learned later when she was old enough to know, and he raised her himself as he sailed the sea. Her earliest memories are of running about the deck of some ship or another, annoying the crew and just causing the general havoc that most children seem to create at that age. She was safe, as safe as any child involved with the shady creatures of piracy, by the fact that her father was very close friends with the feared Bloody Flack. Captain Rivits Flack had a soft spot for children it seemed, and with lil' Molly being the only child of his closest friend, she was very well protected.

But that doesn't mean that his crew much liked the situation. Flack's crew was a shady and degenerate group, both being highly superstitious and paranoid about upsetting the delicate humors of the sea. Women were considered bad luck by the most of them, and Molly was a girl, and a girl-child as well. The bolder souls would often ridicule her and and curse her with rude slurs, while the others would just ignore her when she was around, and would refuse to teach her anything about how to work the ship. But as much as the crew disliked having her aboard, they wouldn't touch her... the captain made sure of that. Even so, as a social child, this treatment hurt the poor girl more than anything, and she grew to be loud, rash, and wild in an attempt to get attention and recognition. Her father and the captain would often have to stop her from doing some of the more fool-hearty stunts she would pull, but other than that she was safe on the ship.

But when one's business is piracy, safety is hard to come by, and danger always right around the corner. Bloody Flack's ship was attacked by a rival pirate, and the majestic ship barely managed to limp into port... Flack wasn't so lucky. With his friend and protector gone, and he himself wounded, Molly's father took his child to the only other safe place he knew... the home of his old navy buddy Grisha.

This was to be the only place where Molly would truly call home and family. Practically abandoned into the care of this gruff mechanic, Grisha was left with the daunting task of taming this half wild child of the sea into some semblance of normality. But through kindness, tough-love, a lot of shouting, and a few good wallops, Molly quickly learned how to behave herself in an almost civilized fashion. Soon she grew very fond of this man she would come to call Uncle, and she would like to think that he had some sort of fondness for her as well.

But at the age of fifteen, the call of the sea grew too strong for her, and she returned to the life of piracy. Quickly working up the ranks, she grew to be quite the pirate indeed, and her first conquest, commandeering the Benny Ubo right under the captains nose, marked her rise to a pirate captain herself.

The stolen ship, renamed the Slinky Thief, was only the first in a line of commandeered ships that she captained. Raiding merchant vessels and other pirates alike, she was a terror at sea. Her daring and sometimes insane stunts that often risked life and limb of herself, her ship, and her crew, gained her the title of Madd Molly Scarlette; a title that, although is not yet famously known, is often murmured by her past crews and closest friends.

But her daring payed of as she had managed to accumulate a rather big store of treasures. A store of treasure that would prove to be her undoing.

Molly hid her treasure herself, in a cove on a secluded bay nearby Old Rose Harbor, one that was near impossible to see from the seaside. She herself only found it on one of her more 'less than successful' stunts, but she had managed to turn the mishap into an opportunity of gold. Her gold in fact, and gold that she would not share of any amount other than the prior amount agreed upon when first setting off with her crew... which happened to be substantially less than what they ended up wanting.

When her first-mate came asking about the location of her treasure store, she refused to give up its location just as she had refused everyone. But this time was to be the last time as her first mate took over her crew in a mutiny, and they marooned her on a small uncharted Island on the sea.

Being resourceful, and fueled by anger, Molly managed to build a raft that she managed to keep together through will and sheer stubbornness and managed to get herself back to the mainland. Still enraged with the craven dogs who had betrayed her, she cursed them all, and by name.

Had she stopped there, satisfied that the gods would hear and carry out her wishes, who knows what would have happened to her... but she didn't, and at that point her fate was changed for ever.

Molly swore off the sea. She cursed it, declaring that she would never sail its waters again, and would instead become a captain of the skies. She would become an aeroship pirate captain, and she would become twice- no, three times the legend than they, the pigs that had betrayed her, would ever dream of becoming as they sailed their cursed sea.

For all the foolishness of her bold declaration, Madd Molly is a pirate who keeps her word. Returning to Old Rose, she looked up her old Uncle Grisha, and with his mechanical expertise and her drive to do the impossible they pieced together a patchwork ship and a patchwork crew. Soon, they will be sailing the skies and raising havoc... but this triumph of rebellion does not come without its own bitterness.

Molly still longs for the sea. She is the captain of her own aeroship, chasing her wild dreams across the vast sky, raiding and pillaging with a savage glee... yet it still has a hold on her, and it's phantom song will ever call her to it's waters. And in the dim of the dawn or the fading twilight, she often finds herself looking out across the water that she swore she would never sail again.

Molly is a girl of her word, and she'll stubbornly keep it, even if no one was around to hear...

!!!Personality

Born and raised a pirate, Molly is as wild and as free spirited as they come. But the shunning of Bloody Flack's crew in her childhood left deep emotional scars, causing her to develop a rather frightening tendency for reckless behavior and a penchant for violence.

She longs for attention of any kind, and wishes to be recognized as someone great and powerful, someone to be reckoned with. But she is often foiled in this by the fact that most of her stunts are extremely dangerous, and many of which have a tendency to backfire at the worst possible time, leading many people to doubt her sanity.

She is not, however, totally irresponsible. Molly takes great pride and care in her work; she is very fair to her crew and follows the rules that she lays down minutely. She is loyal to death for the ones that she calls friends and family, that is until said individuals betray her. Mutiny is inexcusable in her mind, along with betraying those in whom you trust or have trust in you.

Her hunger for such precious things stems partly from this want of attention, but is also is added to by her longing to return to the sea. Because she will keep her word even if it kills her, she is left with this gnawing ache within her as she denies herself of her passion for the ocean. A hole in her heart that she tries in vain to fill with adventure, danger, and the plunder of the world.

Molly's driving desire of becoming an aeroship pirate captain can be easily misconstrued as having delusions of grandeur, and in many cases it is. But due to her determination and outright stubbornness pays off in that, she does eventually manage to get her patchwork aeroship up and running somewhat stably. And with said ship she hopes to plunder her way into unimaginable treasures, despite the fact that she managed to accumulate quite a bit already as a regular seafaring pirate.

!!!Physical Description

Molly is a tall, well figured human female with a pair of bright sea-green eyes and a shock of thick black hair that she keeps tied back out of her eyes with a red sash. She has a long scar that slashes through her left eye, a token from the battle that killed Bloody Flack, and although she can still see with it the vision isn't nearly as good as her right. She is prone to squinting in a kind of half-wink because of this. Only her left ear is pierced and she wears a large gold hoop in it at all times.

She has a tattoo on her right upper arm of a stylized prayer fish which is rarely seen because the voluminous sleeves of her dark blue silk shirt. This shirt is soundly tucked into her deep green pants which are in turn tucked into a pair of knee high boots. Although the boots are heeled slightly, they have excellent traction on even the slipperiest of decks, and Molly's 'sea-legs' give her a confident swagger when she walks in them. She has a belt that she wears loose over her pants that has a tendency to slip over to the side with the weight of her gun-holster.

!!!Inventory

*Long pistol
*Two short arm knives

!!!Goals

Due to the roughshod nature of the aeroship, Molly is constantly having to find or steal the various things needed to get it up and running again. This is an ongoing process as the ship always seems to be falling to bits or crashing to its doom every time they manage to get it up into the air.

Molly's declared goal is to become three times as famous as any pirate of the seas, but what this girl really needs is some honest to goodness attention.

A part of her is missing and whether this part of her is the sea that she has denied herself, or the innocence of her youth is unclear even to her, but until she knows what is truly missing in her life, she will continue to fill it with the wrong things.

Hi there :{ Cool character name. Is there a reason "Mad" is misspelled? I really like the names of her pirate friends and her ships, too. Very creative and not at all stereotypical.

We just have a few notes for you!

- Please do a second glance-over for spelling and grammar.
- Aeroship doesn't need to be capitalized.
- There's a small issue with the paragraph where you discuss her notoriety; one can't actually start a character off as being already famous. The reason for this is that it creates a mini-continuity issue; why haven't we (the game world) heard of her before if she was so well-known? It's also a slight unfair advantage to other players. I'm afraid Miss Scarlette will have to earn her fame during gameplay; it's fine if she's well-known among a smaller group of people, like people she's been in a crew with, and it's also fine if she just happens to know a lot of people. I think this will make her quest for greater notoriety all the more powerful.
- Your goal section reads a lot like an extension of her personality section; it might be a good idea to consolidate those two sections, and simplify her goals, perhaps adding some immediate, short-term goals for RP.
- Although you're correct in that the majority of human society is prejudiced against powerful women, it's to a lesser degree within the microcosm of Old Rose. There are several well-known female pirates, including Angel Firehair and Lacey Lovell. They do have to work harder to get that kind of a reputation, however. This isn't really a required edit but it's something to keep in mind.

Please post again once you've edited! Thanks :)

Post Re: Madd Molly Scarlette
Thank you for your input! Honestly, I've been having a rather difficult time finding constructive criticism anywhere.

Molly's notoriety is easily fixed, I was just trying to get across that during her seafaring career she has become good enough at her job to be able to afford such an elaborate goal as to build an aeroship. But I could just as easily say that she has earned (stolen) enough wealth while still remaining under the radar, a thing which will probably be more useful considering the less than legal nature of her recent goings on.

I didn't realize that the goals and personality had blended together so much. I guess it's partly because her goals drive her personality and vice versa. But it is also a thing easily fixed, just as you said.

With regards to the prejudice, I was trying to lean more on it than what most people do. Especially the fact that most pirates are superstitious. Perhaps by stating that Bloody Flack's crew was overly superstitious and paranoid about such things would make Molly's treatment more understandable.

I'll try to go over the whole thing again for spelling and grammar errors. I recently got a new word download but some of the spelling types are not up to date. And yes, 'Madd' is misspelled on purpose. Not for any particular reason except the fact that I thought it looked cool, and there would be a double letter in every part of her name.

Once again, thank you so much for your input! You wouldn't believe how helpful I find such things.

I like Madd! It works really well considering pirates probably can't spell very well =p
