Back Story:
Devin Berach is what most folks would call a “survivor”. “Bear” as he is called in most of the towns he visits has been all over Anaxas in his thirty years. A hunter by trade Devin goes where the game is and so is very knowledgeable on how to live in the wilds. His wild stories are hugely popular and he always draws a crowd when telling them.

Bear grew up in Knowles and learned skills from his older brother Gerard, a very capable hunter in his own right. Gerard raised Bear as their parents had been executed some years earlier for “conspiracy”. He kept food on the table and a roof over their heads with the pelts he sold and the meat he delivered to the butchers. Devin learned tracking, stealth, and archery before he was ten.
The small cabin he and Gerard owned in Knowles was vacant most of the year as they hunted game all around Anaxas. They lived off the land and were happy, the hard life made them tough and thankful for what little they had. Gerard was an honest man, easy to talk to and very kind to everyone he met and Bear strived to be just like his big brother. He succeeded, one would be hard pressed to find a harsh opinion of Bear. Though his considerable talent for finding rare game causes a grumble amongst competing hunters.

Devin lost his brother to the horrifying mists of Anhai Valley. How and why his brother ventured into Hatcher territory is a mystery and a touchy subject with Bear. If he knows he won’t say and will become quite sullen and quiet if the subject is broached. Bear has an understandably deep seeded hatred for the Hatchers and vows to be the first man to kill one. Perhaps his brother had made a similar vow.

Devin still hunts the countryside, trying to stay out of the politics of the world. He has an affinity with animals ironically and befriended a Bander Wolf while roaming near the Northern Tors, his name is Quinn. Since they found each other the pair have been inseparable, Devin likes to say that Quinny was sent by ol Gerry to keep him company.

Personality:
Bear is very cheerful, especially when sitting around a fire in an inn with a pint telling stories of his adventures to intent listeners. His voice is loud and booming and a deep laugh is never far below the surface. In a tough, dreary time for humans, Devin has a way of making the hard trodden folk of Anaxas forget their worries for a time.

Extremely loyal and caring, Bear is always one to give you the shirt off his back and is quick to defend those he feels cannot adequately defend themselves. He has a “live and let live” kind of attitude and doesn’t feel troubled too much by the politics of the towns and cities he visits to sell his pelts and rare game. He has no memory of his parents deaths and holds no grudge against the gollies. The one thing that brings a shadow to his face and ends the laughter is the mention of his brother’s death or Hatchers in general. This topic brings the stories and laughter to an abrupt end and the only words from Bear then are hateful oaths muttered under his breath.

Description:
Devin most definitely fits his nickname. He is a bear of a man. Standing a good 6'3 with a wide muscular build. He’s by no means overweight as a life on the land does not allow a man to be out of shape. He wears a full beard with a long braided mustache. His hair is a blazing mane of red hair that he keeps pulled back and hidden in a hood while hunting but is free to do as it pleases in town. A long plaited braid runs down his back. His eyes are friendly and the brightest blue most have seen. He has a wide rounded nose and deep dimples when he smiles.

Bear’s clothes tend to be thick for warmth and dark toned, deep greens and browns for camouflage. He wears a well up kept leather vest with a multitude of pockets. A quiver of crossbow bolts hangs at his side from an enormous black leather belt that also holds a large number of pouches and bags. He’s never without his large, brown leather pack in which he keeps all manner of survival tools and precious possessions. Large black, leather boots, made for hiking and silent tracking, they are ringed by fur around the top of the boot and lined for warmth. A rather impressive looking hunting knife is strapped to his left leg and goes by the moniker “Abigail” or “Abby”. A long, brown, hooded cloak is at hand for tracking or foul weather. The powerful crossbow Bear hunts with is always at hand and is a formidable weapon and as Bear likes to name his weapons, she bears the name Maire (pronounced like Mary). She and Abby were both Gerry’s and was all Bear has left to remember his brother by.

The Bander Wolf Quinn is two tones of grey with blue eyes to match his friend. He is a large, full grown male Bander who is committed to the death to Bear.

Devin is a simple man, he enjoys his solitude and his travels. He’d hunt the wilds of Anaxas with Quinn forever if he could. If there’s one thing that could drive him down a darker, more dangerous path it would be his aching hatred for the Hatchers and their continued survival.

Any idea where you will start?

I think he'll be coming into Vienda with some pelts. Figure I'll keep him away from Viktor, I assume you don't want both of my characters to meet. Also, are the animals in the bestiary the only animals running around Anaxas? I keep using the word "game" for him to hunt and am not sure what he's hunting exactly.
