!!!Backstory:

Frederick was born to a pair of adventuring academics. His father Felix Vespasian is an expert on culture and geography – particularly Wick Nomad Traditions and Lore – who occasionally lectures at Brunnhold. His mother Martja Nox Vespasian was a Cartography and Living magic instructor at the school in Frecks before Felix swept her away into his traveling lifestyle. As such, most of Frederick's early years were spent abroad in various cities and regions. The lad has seen more of the kingdom than most galdori twice his age. He has also spent much of that time, with his father's encouragement, amongst the wick population and has picked up some of their attitudes as swell as a proficient usage of Tek.

Early on, Frederick developed a love of outdoor activity and competed in many of the games of the nomadic children with whom he hunted. Much to his mother's chagrin, he was given the nickname "Hunter" and it stuck. It suits him in part because of his prowess as a hunter with knives and bolas and in part because of his inquisitive nature. He is good at hunting down whatever piece of information he may need to answer a puzzle or solve a problem.

Not that a traditional education was lacking. Martja makes the rules of the household and one of them was that Frederick could only accompany them on expeditions if he kept up with his studies (administered mainly by her) at a level equivalent of what he would be learning at Brunnhold. Martja loves her son, but is less blind than her husband to the consequences of their lifestyle in galdori society. Therefore, she decided that Frederick must spend his next two years at Brunnhold as his "finishing touches" are beyond her ability to teach.


!!!Personality:

Hunter is a friendly, outgoing young man. Eager to lend a hand where it is needed, he is also aware (due to his mother's repeated reminder) that sometimes help is unwelcome and might be viewed as a sort of insult. Having been successful in a number of areas, and seeing himself as privileged, both as a galdori in a world of wicks and humans and as (up until now) free from the cloistered life of a typical student, so he has a tendency to be quite confident about voicing his knowledge and opinions. In galdori social situations, this can lead to an occasional slip-up. In class it means that he is quick to respond if he (thinks he) knows the answer. If he is right, then he feels that he is sharing his accomplishment. If he is wrong, or the teacher corrects him on some point, then he has corrected an error in his thinking and/or learned something new. Either way, it is best to speak up.

Perhaps his greatest strength (or frequently weakness depending upon the situation) is his inquisitive nature. Once a question captures his imagination it is almost impossible to turn his mind from it. His mother hopes that Brunnhold will teach him a bit of restraint as well as prepare him for life as an adult among his own kind.


!!!Physical Description:

Hunter is short of stature but quite broad in the chest and well-muscled from extensive time spent running, climbing, swimming and generally getting about more than any galdori child has a business to. He moves with grace, assurance, and energy. Often he has to remind himself not to outpace his companions.

He gets his coloring from his mother, pale white skin that bears a light scar here and there from his "adventures", black hair worn close-cropped in his father's style, and eyes the green of the forest. Among his "markings": a series of toothmarks on his right forearm from playing with wild bander cubs, a small mark on his right brow from a bird scratch – noticeable only because a thin strip of eyebrow will not grow there, a tattoo on his left bicep of a blue-green serpent covering the mark of a serpent bite, and a small tattoo of a bird done in black just behind his left ear.

Having a rather utilitarian view of clothing, Hunter does not mind wearing a uniform as long as it does not restrict his movement. However, his active lifestyle is typically evidenced by small tears and wears in clothing and a definite "rumpled" look. He tries to keep this in check by reserving one or two "good" sets of clothing which are not worn when his plans include outdoor activity.


!!!Inventory:

Streak: Hunter's "pet" Bander, sleek with yellow eyes and brown-and-black stripes; exceptionally swift and good at picking out gamesign

Weapons:
*two short throwing daggers and a long hunting knife
*a pair of smooth weighted stone spheres connected by a length of strong cord, used as a weapon to slow or halt running prey

Stuff:
*Cartography Kit: Supplies for making or copying maps as well as several notebooks of his attempts to map out his own travels
*Souvenirs: a wooden box bearing a collection of feathers, scales, coins, stones, preserved lizards and insects, old poems and various other small keepsakes collected from his adventures abroad

!!!Career

Adventurer/Hunter
*running, climbing, swimming for long periods
*excellent aim with his knives or bola
*animal lore (identification of species, likely behavior or hiding places...)

Student
*Level One magic: he knows most spells but is definitely strongest with Living (except for an emotional barrier to using Pain or Sting)
*Geography and Cartography
*Biology: can identify most common plant and animal species and cite their known ranges and preferred habitats; knows several less common (one hesitates to say illicit) specimens as well; can go on and on (perhaps too) enthusiastically about the behavior and cycles of forest and plains animals

!!!Goals

First, Hunter wants to make his parents proud by doing well as a student and impressing his teachers.
Second, he would like to do that in as little time as possible so that he can get back to the "real world".
Third, he will want to help broaden the experience and worldview of his more sheltered peers and younger students - perhaps even a few teachers.

I do have a couple of questions:

Is there a post with people's class schedules somehwere? I looked and found a couple of threads addressing this but didn't see where people were listing this info.

Also, once approved what timestamp/date will I be able to start posting within?

It's not necessary but it can be very helpful to know what your characters interests and classes are. You can start posting at around current date time, it might be good to start at the beginning of Bethas, after the students visiting the circus get back. 1st Bethas is also the current in-game date. You can choose any time or place that you like or you can jump in on someone else's thread if it's open.

You can create a thread title broadly as: (time, date) Title (persons involved)

An example is: (15oc, B1) Lunchtime at the cafeteria (Open)
This thread takes place at midday on 1st Bethas, in the cafeteria and is open to all players and mods.

I'd seen those posts but was wondering if we had an official place to put such information. I saw that the Journals forum was suggested. Maybe it would be worthwhile to add the info to charactersheets? Then again, that may just be my annoying bookkeeper side coming out... It's not vitally important and not everyone has decided on a class list it seems.

Regarding date/time: I was thinking of replying to Nalisia's thread on the 26th, but I can wait if that would be a problem.

Naul: Yeah, new student/target/soon-to-be-fellow-outcast or something like that.

Putting it in a journal is an excellent idea, the only requirement is that it's in character. Since Hunter is just starting he can even try out a discipline or two and switch, that might even be something worth roleplaying with other characters if you like. It's not necessary to have it on your character sheet, though I suppose you can if you would like. I think having the class list for yourself is a great idea, especially now that some classes have been RP'ed.

Replying to Nalisia's thread is an excellent idea, especially since she's not involved with the group running off to see the circus. The only reason I suggested Bethas was because a lot of dramatic events have occured at the end of Intas (Pascual dying, Naul and Nath fighting) so it may be easier to walk in after those. There's no reason you have to though, it could also be interesting to have Hunter observe some of those events and comment on them after the fact.

Heh. Apparently, the outcast group is accepting applications. :p We have a rolling admission process, I believe. It tends to require a bit of conflict before approval.

There is also a Formal Dinner for 8th year students on the 28th, but you'd have to ask Carto about joining that one I guess. It hasn't gone too far yet, in my opinion. You could always turn out to be the random student at Naul's table.

Not sure who the Independent Study instructor would be... preferably someone who might (have) introduce(d) Hunter to Fowler in the lab. There's bound to be some potentially amusing fieldwork collaboration in there somewhere.

Re: class list - I don't require it because sticking to a schedule would be a bit confining for RP. Students who list their classes might have trouble finding threads in which they can participate, because a good bit of the RP is going on during the daytime. Leaving it more vague gives you more wiggle room.

Besides, at Brunnhold the professors are all working on their own research; sometimes they cancel class or move it to another time just so they can go watch frogs mate or view planets aligning.
