Dear Frederick,
I apologize for letting so much time pass between our last correspondence and this one, but I have been without anything resembling an accessible address for quite a while. After the Circus and some work in the Harbor, I spent most of Bethas on Surwood Isle, mostly enjoying the wick festival there. It's definitely an experience, and it'd been years since I'd last been. While it was nice to reconnect with my adoptive family with the Red Crows, I was reminded once again of the tragedy of the riots and the complexities that followed.
I'll have you know that the dead were honored properly in a Fotamos Ceremony and that the Durgs of both the Yellow Eye and the Red Crow have perhaps begun to see the error in their ways. They took a moment to come together over their dead.
What some in power may have meant to cause more division could possibly have become a uniting force. I can only hope that the gods see it fit to temper all our spirits for such a day.
It's my expectation that you haven't escaped from the confines of school completely yet; it's an enviable privilege that you've been given, not only by the gift of your genetics but by the blessings of circumstance. Unpleasant as I can imagine some things are, it's still my hope you, of any in the student body who are less aware of what goes on beyond the red walls, make the most of your education.
I hope this letter finds you well. Feel free in your spare moments to write back. The address enclosed is perhaps the most permanent address I've had since my distant, nearly forgotten childhood in Muffey. Though, that was surely a different time. For now, my home has indeed become Old Rose Harbor, and I certainly have little inkling to return to Vienda any time soon.
Well, I must keep this letter short. Sarinah and I are in the process of fixing up an old building for business, and, unfortunately, the work is far from over.
