!!!Backstory:
From the age of seventeen, Endo Wirewright was recognised as a genius, and revered by humans and galdori alike. He possessed a mathematical intellect, but could turn his mind to almost anything and was blessed with a measure of creativity. He was an inventor, scientist, linguist and astronomer.
At twenty-four he was working alongside top galdori academics in the field of Aersohip design. His colleagues treated him as an equal, but Endo knew this was more out of necessity than genuine appreciation. If he was not working on the side of the galdor then he could easily be put to work against them.
It was here that he met a galdori student named Archy. The sixteen year old was the son of Endo’s mentor and was training to become a professor of magic. He confided in Endo that his real passion lay in the arts. He wanted to be a painter, but his father would not allow it, and forbade him to paint during the school term.
Endo and Archy became close friends. Despite the difference in race and years, it didn’t take long for Endo’s affection to turn amorous, but the relationship remained strictly platonic until Archy was nineteen, by which time he was mature enough to reciprocate.
Endo was extremely careful but Archy was more defiant. One day his father confronted him and a fight ensued.
Soon after, on a groggy winter’s evening, Endo was attacked and left for dead. It is not known why or by whom, but he was hit round the side of the head with some sort of steel implement, causing severe brain damage and putting him into a coma.
Rescued by a band of sympathetic wicks, Endo was monitored and kept alive. Six months later he awoke, suffering from amnesia and unable to talk. He entered into a life of piracy and slowly his speech returned, along with vague memories. He knew his first name was Endo, and he felt a strong sense of loss and injustice, but apart from this all ties to his past had been totally severed.
He ended up in Anaxes, twenty years on, and remains stationed in Old Rose Harbour to this day.
As for Archy, he fled his hometown. After many years of searching for Endo, he finally conceded, married a bright galdori actor named Suzy and bore three children.
!!!Personality:
With diminished intellect and an appearance deteriorated by life post-coma, Endo is merely a shadow of his former self.
In youth, he was intense and often feverishly at work – studying, calculating and experimenting. His had the mind the size of a planet and was fuelled also by love. Without either, he is merely a man who finds it difficult to understand certain things, is often struck with debilitating headaches but who, in essence, is intuitive and kind.
Endo takes life one day at a time, pouring most of his energy into finding work so as to buy him enough food to get by. What little he receives, he shares with the homeless. He has a great love of children and animals, who in turn are attracted to him by his gentle disposition.
Endo is extremely sensitive to other people’s thoughts and feelings. He can read even the most reserved as if they were an open book. He abhorred being a pirate, and tries to find strictly non-violent employment. Many feel he is wasted as a manual labourer.
Traces of his pre-coma character sometimes reveal themselves, especially if triggered by a galdori of similar appearance or manner to that of Archy.
!!!Physical Description:
At around 7 feet, Endo’s height and stature ensured him work as a labourer at sea or on land following his exile. At fifty-one years his strength is beginning to fail him, but he was once as strong as any born and bred sailor.
Before the coma, Endo was very attractive, almost angelic looking. He was fair-haired with freckles and a pale complexion. He wore exotic clothes and often allowed Archy to decorate his body and face with paint. But today, after years of toiling under the sun, Endo’s skin is calloused and darkened. His hair is a shock of white, thick and wild, pushed from his eyes by a bandana. Tufts of hair still frame his face, which is lined and tired looking. He has large hands and feet, but the rest of his body seems to be withering prematurely. His eyes, once bright, are now a murky green. His ears are decorated with shining rings, studs and beads – the only remnant of the flamboyant character of his youth.
A patch on Endo’s forehead, mostly concealed by the bandana, is horribly scarred and misshapen from the steel bar blow.
He wears shin-length coats, even in the summertime, to obscure his deteriorating strength and to shield him from the cold, which he feels acutely. He is often seen layered in gloves and heavy scarves and carrying a large bag of all his possessions over one shoulder.
He has small scratches and scars along his upper lip, cheeks, and the bridge of his nose, which is broken in two places.
Despite loosing the faculty of speech since the attack, he still retains a Bastian accent.
!!!Inventory:
A large pack that contains
*Scarves, hats, gloves, vests, a spare pair of shoes.
*Candlesticks, bundles of food, a compass, a knife and a watch
!!!Career
Odd jobs loading and unloading ships, carrying heavy equipment. He is a useful navigator as he still recalls stars and planetary movement. After being repeatedly robbed (due to carelessness and a poor memory) he finds that he cannot afford his own house. People are usual hospitable towards him, and he sleeps where he can.
!!!Goals
With an ever deteriorating body and mind, Endo's only goals are to stay alive and to try and help those around him do the same.
