(B24, Afternoon) Banke Bazaar (Ailen, Open)
Quote: The Banke Bazaar is a crescent structure built on a man-made plateau. It transitions between the Slope and Low Valley, where past collaborative efforts were employed to move enough earth to form a flat region for the market and meeting-place to be built. Its sandstone formation foots the Slope and tops the Low Valley. Two arms reach from the central three-story structure to nearly circle a domed rotunda. The tops of the colonnades are walkways, where one can always relax on its benches among potted flora and observe the people coming and going below. During celebrations they are topped with revelers, near bursting into the full courtyard below. The rotunda is often a meeting place excepting such celebrations, when it often houses live bands. Its copper roof glints warmly in the sun, as do the copper eaves of the main structure, the top story of which is a covered walkway and porch. The covered interior of the arms of the colonnade are continuously filled with people bartering and selling jewelery, figurines, chickens and hingles, cheeses, and anything else for all occasions. It is a community shopping center for all tribes.
The main structure is roofed traditionally, with sweeping roof lines that slope upward. The warm sandstone columns are large, bulging creatures footed with round designs, and topped with more angular icons, carved with geometric designs and painted with bright oranges, reds, and yellows. The underside of the roofed colonnade is painted in angular, geometric patterns in a similar palette, sometimes with the occasional green or blue. The muted palette is almost an apology for its excessively vibrant company. After depositing the rabbit meant for her family at home, the Roek trapper walked down to the marketplace, her daughter in tow. A magnificent pheasant dangled from her back, its long tail feathers swaying in the breeze. She stopped suddenly and grinned at Ailen. "Here, you take him. You are still little, so he will look even larger compared to you." Her grin turned uncharacteristically mischievous. Cute little girls always made selling carcasses easier.

"Not that little, Daoa. I am nearly as tall as you, you see?" Still, she took the pheasant. It was rather large, indeed. The market was abustle with people selling all sorts of things, and she wondered what, if anything, they'd bring home.

Re: (24, Afternoon) Banke Bazaar (Ailen, Open)
"No you are n--"
She glared at the top of her daughter's head, which came up to her nose. It seemed like only days ago Jyndri was holding her baby girl in her arms, and now Ailen was inexplicably a teen. How quickly the years go by...
"Regardless. You do the holding, I will do the shouting."
She faced the milling crowd, and hawked, "Pheasant here! Bring home this big, beautiful bird! Stew him in a pot! Roast him in the oven! He'll feed four famished family members!"

Dai walked the market, reveling in the collection of noises, odors and people. He'd given his students the afternoon off. They had just finished a series of exams and done well enough to warrant the reward. Plus, more than a few had seasonal chores to keep them busy at home. All except for the special project students - three little ones who were currently staying behind to finish up the We Are Lore assignment. Soon it will be time to find a proper instructor in arts for them. My own meager brushwork will not do I'm afraid...Quote: "Pheasant here! Bring home this big, beautiful bird! Stew him in a pot! Roast him in the oven! He'll feed four famished family members!"
"Four indeed! That sound exactly right for what I need." He swung around the large shoulder bag that held his "goods for trade". "Let's see... I have here a half dozen hen's eggs, berries: two pints black and two pints blue, three bottles of sippa oil, some fresh picked rosemary and sage, a pamphlet of Ethian recipes, another on farming small gardens, and a scroll of meditations from the old Loremasters... not that you've probably much use for those last." He smiled easily at the mother and daughter Roek.

Quote: "Four indeed! That sound exactly right for what I need." "Good!" She grinned, pleased to find a buyer so soon. Hawking wares was her least favorite part of selling, even though decades of practice had made her fairly good at it. Trading was the fun part. "I will take the eggs for our breakfast tomorrow, the herbs for our stew tonight, and, Ailen, do you want that gardening pamphlet?" How many eggs was one pheasant worth? There was no lore scroll for that. Jyndri wondered if she was asking a bit much, but haggling was almost a sacred tradition in the bazaar. She believed that, like leaves floating down a river, things traded at the market would eventually find their way to whoever needed them most.

"Sure, daoa, I will take the pamphlet." Ooh, actual written knowledge? Hey! She could probably use that.
((Ohhh, SFSR.))

Re: (24, Afternoon) Banke Bazaar (Ailen, Open)
Dai considered the trade. It seemed, at least to him, to weigh heavily in his favor. He was no hunter or trapper, but he saw that the woman had only the one pheasant. He wondered if that had been the only payoff for a day's work. It was an impressive bird. Most of his own goods were gifts from parents in exchange for his lessons, at the moment Dai was something of a wealthy man as bartering goods went. Of course that changed from season to season, but he was rarely wanting for anything.
"Good woman, that seems a generous deal. Will you at least take some of the blackberries? They are from my own plot, and easily replaced."
"In fact, if you have a taste for gardening, we might make arrangements for regular trade of seeds and supplies. I often have guests for meals and the meat is a welcome addition to the fruits of the field."

How does blackberry pie sound to you, Ailen?" Quote: "In fact, if you have a taste for gardening, we might make arrangements for regular trade of seeds and supplies. I often have guests for meals and the meat is a welcome addition to the fruits of the field." The woman shifted the weight on her feet. She walked all day, every day, but somehow standing in one place made her feet sore. Maybe she was getting old. "A fair deal. Perhaps you could teach Ailen here a thing or two about plants." She placed an encouraging hand on her daughter's shoulder, adding with maternal pride, "She grows very tasty tomatoes!"

Ailen perked up at the mention of her, and especially gardening. "Yessir, if I may say so, I do grow tomatoes. I would be interested in knowing more about gardening!" Mmmmmm blackberries. "And yes, pie sounds delighful. Possibly more than delightful."

Re: (24, Afternoon) Banke Bazaar (Ailen, Open)
Dai's face lit up with enthusiasm. Curiosity in the young was useful. But a young mind that sought naturally after knowledge aside from one's tribal traditions was especially rare. If the Roek girl wanted to learn about planting, he would assist her in whatever way was required. That her mother was a source of valuable commodities didn't hurt, either.
"Ah, a natural talent for gardening. Quite refreshing! You could probably teach some of my students a thing or two. Some of them only see planting as the dull duty of their parents and take an unfortunately reluctant approach."
"Well, Miss Ailen, why don't you start with this pamphlet. If you need an explanation or demonstration of anything, you and your mother are welcome at my school house. Ask anyone in the Valley for Dai Goizargi's place. It's near Anestin. The teaching schedule changes with the season, so any time is good."

Re: (B24, Afternoon) Banke Bazaar (Ailen, Open)
The mother nodded approvingly. Anestin was a good place, and his living near it reflected well on him.
It is about time Ailen has someone to learn from. The girl had long ago raided the Laskal family's store of gardening wisdom.
"Dai Goizargi," she said, committing the name to memory, "you will have a visit from Ailen Laskal and her mother Jyndri, maybe near week's end. Our home is on a hill near the Che-Kop. Should you need meat again, you will be welcome to trade in stories there."
After a long day alone in the woods, sometimes a warm fire, a story, and a mug of mulled mead were all Jyndri needed to be content. Now that her children were growing up, they were telling her less and less about their days. She feared that someday they might never speak to her at all, and then who would tell her stories by the fire?

"Really?" Ailen's excitement showed on her face. "Thank you so much, daoa! And you too, sir! I expect to learn many valuable skills from you." ((SFSR))
