 Mira Nai Delphinae
'''Name:''' Mira (me-dah) Nai (nigh) Delphinae (dell'FEE-nay)
'''Age:''' 18 (Dentis 18th)
'''Race:''' galdor
'''Place of Origin:''' Vienda, Anaxas
'''Occupation:''' Student
!!!Backstory Mira's parents met and fell in love during their shared time at Brunnhold. There was interfamily controversy over how young the couple was when they decided to get married as well as the taxing nature of the arrangement on the bride's family. Mira's mother was a Mugrobi citizen who had only intended to study abroad, but she chose the pain of abandoning her country to remain in Anaxas. She eventually settled for the life of a homemaker, artistic hobbyist, and occasional socialite whenever her husband's career demanded it of her. Her father is now a retired spellwriter working as a lawmaker in Vienda.
Both of her parents were distant people with a fondness for books. Mira learned to love reading as well since it was the best thing to do to pass her more boring hours at home. They were a considerably wealthy family, yet they did not travel or vacation much. Much of their excess was silently donated to charitable causes (less silently during the election seasons). Her father was always either locked away in his study or away on business. The most attention-grabbing aspects of this dull life for Mira were the campaign parties brimming with Anaxi children eager to tell her how odd her appearance was, and her mother. Her mother was at the root of her strangeness, she realized early on. The woman was dark-skinned, had no hair, and constantly muttered to herself in a language her daughter could not understand. She had a way of looking at Mira that said, "We may not speak often, but I know more about you than you can tell."
Any other child may have been crippled by shame over this, but the exact opposite was true of Mira. The moment she realized she was different, that there was something "special" or "odd" or "unordinary" about herself, the full force of her curiosity blossomed. Her childhood days prior to Brunnhold were characterized by impromptu lessons in Mugrobi language and culture (acquired from her soft-spoken mother after much nagging); play dates that consisted of "exploring the desert lands," "dueling sorcerers," and wild games of Catch the Kenser; running, jumping, falling, and climbing (whatever was around, including the mansion); and trying in every way possible, at any given opportunity, to act in an unorthodox manner. She outgrew the last endeavor relatively quickly but retained an earnest love for all things unusual and to this day considers the quirky stares she receives from others a badge of honor.
At the age of 10, she passed the initiation to Brunnhold with flying colors and began her studies there. Having led an admittedly sheltered life, the Stacks was the first place where she ever had to interact with wicks. Her father often complained about them, much to her delight as a child, for they sounded like a perfectly bizarre people. She had once been scolded for implying she would like to dye her hair pink or blue. Humans were base, predictable, unsavory creatures who needed saving from themselves. These half-breed wicks, on the other hand, could scarcely even be considered people. Seeing them in the Stacks as business owners was like observing wild hummingbirds flitting in and out of a cage as they pleased, hovering over the town, ever small and never connected. Elusive and colorful.
Far stranger than herself.
Now in her 8th year at Brunnhold, she has developed two intertwined passions. The first is combat magic, a mixture of Static and Physical spellcasting. This will be her first year of advanced study. The other is a pursuit she has confined to the realm of non-magical electives and independent study: understanding wicks. The adventurous, thrill-starved woman she is at her core led her to cast her sights on a position in the Seventen. The Resistance was a fascinating social phenomenon but a criminal organization nonetheless, a threat to Anaxas, and wicks were the wild card in that struggle. What better way to control a people than by learning the ins and outs of their culture? At least that was the "socially acceptable" explanation for her fetishes.
!!!Personality Mira is an eccentric, to put it bluntly. As if her mixed-ethnic looks were not enough to distinguish her from her peers, she insists on alternating between remaining silent even when spoken to and butting into conversations that interest her regardless of her welcome. Her commentary normally comes out blunt and terse: she never wastes words. Well... almost never. Mentioning wicks or the resistance is the same as inviting her to speak in poetic verse for hours, which she is more than happy to do. She's got a way of sucking her cheeks in as she smiles, crinkling her nose, and acquiring a deviously guilty glint in her eyes whenever wicks are mentioned or alluded to in polite conversation. To her wicks are like exotic creatures to be catalogued and studied, but never trusted.
In truth, she has an almost obsessive fascination with them. The vast majority of her spare time outside of coursework is devoted to reading books by or about wicks, fiction and non-fiction. Her near-religious tendency is to patronize wick-owned and operated shops with her shills as her contribution to keeping them around. Her parents are wealthy so she never minds being purposely frivolous with her coins toward this end. She frequents pubs and eateries with writing supplies in hand to record her observations of their mannerisms as well as stray snatches of (surely misspelled) Tek. As a fluent speaker of both Estua and Mugrobi, she occasionally picks out borrowed words that allow her to understand bits and pieces of their conversations based on context. She always responds when spoken to by a wick. Perhaps the greatest of these peculiarities is her insistence on keeping a pet whice who she ironically named Silas Hawke.
Her other hobbies include running and climbing any structure she can get away with climbing. Her social life happens in brief, sporadic spurts of mercurial interest in any given person, which fade away as quickly as they arrive. Despite spending copious amounts of time in solitude, she is rarely bored. More often than not, if she is bored, she is being bored by the company present and will often say so. Her intelligence, athleticism, and creativity are all admirable traits, but she lacks the basic skill of compassion, especially toward galdori who should "be stronger than that" or "know better." She was largely ignored if not teased as a child, so she learned to demand what she wants rather than wait on any sort of consideration from others. She is willing to listen to others and work as a team member, but only when the benefit to herself is clear. It is very difficult to make her angry, but it is also very difficult to impress her.
!!!Physical Description Mira is of mixed Anaxi and Mugrobi descent, and it shows. Like most galdori, she has a small, lithe frame, but she is also exceptionally fit. She is 5'4" and weighs 125 lbs. Her skin is a pale tawny color and is mostly clear except for a spattering of freckles across her cheeks and the bridge of her nose. Her nose itself is small and wide, her eyes are slanted and round, and her lips are relatively plump for an Anaxas woman. More distinctively, her hair is strawberry blonde and she allows it to grow wild. Plentiful evidence of childhood (and schoolyard) injuries can be found on every single one of her extremities.
She tends to wear Brunnhold's prescribed school uniform with a few embellishments, such as Mugrobi jewelry and waist sashes. She tends to wear fitted men's clothing outside of school (except when it would socially behoove her not to, in which case she alternates between high class Anaxi and Mugrobi fashions). A purple pair of goggles is rarely if ever missing from her ensemble. She is quite fond of the color purple and all of its shades. The one thing she always wears by default is a look of permanent smugness in her yellow eyes.
!!!Inventory School Bag: *quills and ink *vellum-bound notebook for notes on wicks *grimoire on advanced Static spellcasting *grimoire on advanced Physical spellcasting *textbooks on World History, Geography, and Diplomacy *notebook with spell notes and lecture notes *copy of the first in the Sagra of the Wastelands series
Pockets: *coin purse *small bag of whice feed *hair pins
!!!Career Student/Aspiring Seventen: *running fast *good reflexes
*climbing trees and buildings *excellent with Static and Physical magic *understanding complex ideas *fluent in Estuan and Mugrobi *knowledge of wick culture and customs *eavesdropping
!!!Goals Her goal is to live an adventurous life devoid of boredom while still living within the parameters of galdori society. She is uninterested in having children or marrying, but will probably do so as late as possible or whenever she is satisfied with her exploits (whichever comes latest). When she was a girl, she fantasized about living among the wicks, a wild creature without standards, but very real social pressures have since changed her mind with age. Even she is not so bold as to debase herself to that extent. That being said, one of her secret desires is to someday own (or at least read) a copy of the Spoke's Almanac.

 Re: Mira Nai Delphinae
Hi, Mira, thanks for the bump. Sorry we didn't get back to you sooner. We have several mods currently out of commission, so things are taking longer than expected. Just some minor things here, and we can get to approving you: -Words in single quotes should be italicized -The "freedom fighters" game wouldn't exist, unfortunately. The galdori have been very in the dark regarding the rebels up until recently, and even now many of them take a "la la la, I'm not listening!" mentality towards it. I'm sure there's another game you can think of for them to play. Or you can pick one of the ones listed in the wiki: http://thornsbook.com/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Main.Games-Please recognize that this character has many oddities compared to other galdori. The mods are willing to let it slip, as long as you recognize that she is very odd and eccentric compared to her peers. You already mention the fact that her eccentricities are considered odd by others, so you're on the right track. This isn't something that needs changing, just recognition.
