(H23, Late Morning) To Market, To Market. [Karo]
Jane hadn't left the Stag before. She came into the city, and found her job, it's true. She just hadn't ventured outside the Stag yet. It was her home, a safe haven. After the events of a few days before, she didn't really want to. What she had seen really shook up Janes nerves a little, but Gannon had ordered that she go get supplies. She didn't know where Vicka was, so Jane was the messenger for once.
As Jane walked through the Soot District, she lugged a basket in her arm, and in it, a couple of loaves of bread. She recalled the list of food Gannon had told her to get in her head. 'Bread, Vegetables, Meat if you can get it, Sugar, Flour, and Coffee. She had the bread, and now she was on the way to get some vegetables. The busy market place loomed over the courtyard.
The market place was filled to the brim with people. As it always was, not only the harmless human and tsat civillians, but the Seventen were there too. It seemed like the guard around the Soot District had doubled now that prohibition was in full force. Jane smirked a little to herself, The prohibition won't do anything you stupid bastards.
Thumbing through the selection of carrots, beets, celery and other vegetables, Jane yawned and picked the cream of the crop. I know where these vegetables come from. Jane thought, putting them in her basket. It was an odd feeling. She could tell the grower of such vegetables, he lived a couple of fields over from Jane back at the farmlands. She felt a stab in her stomach as a wave of homesickness washed over her. She smiled a little, and paid the grocer for her vegetables.
Scanning the area, she spotted someone selling flour. She smiled a little, and went over. Is it? A massive grin exploded on her face. Yes! It is... It was the flour her brother and father milled. The same flour that she milled herself only a month ago. She recognized the canvas bags, each with the mark of her fathers farm. They'd sell the flour to others, who'd then sell it in places like Vienda. She blinked back tears at the thought she was buying something that would directly help her father.
She paid for a small bag, and placed it in her basket.

Karo kept a diary, but it was surprising how much never made it to its pages. He never recorded the days of tedium, planning a robbery or scouting out locations, or tailing marks. For one, that was damning evidence, even though Karo knew that simply being himself was damning enough for any Seventen. But also it would bore him stiff, to write out: woke. ate. errands. slept., over and over again.
He needed to check on the smithy, but word in the grapevine told of a Seventen officer raiding the establishment. Karo was understandably wary, but the Spindles had his clocking money--Terrol's clocking money, even worse--and he wanted its worth.
In the meantime, he scoured the streets for some form of diversion. He would not be able to work until nightfall, and anyway the Seventen kept this place locked tight. Sometimes it was all he could do but cast a shroud over himself in a dark corner and re-read Sagra. The market was innocent enough. Karo kept his hands to himself. He was not light-fingered anymore, and he didn't like to risk it, even if he was tired and hungry.

Jane walked over to the fruit shop, and bought a few apples. They'd be for sweet things, if anyone ever asked again, like Dahlia did a few days before. She took one, and bit into it roughly, the tangy flesh juicy in her mouth. It was a comfort, eating something so fresh and tasty. She swallowed and continued to eat as she looked over the other goods for sale at the market.
It was a pleasant day. Humble, sunny. The sunniest it had been in a few months. The summer was coming up, and Jane wished all the best for her father for the harvest. At this time of year, they'd be relying solely on stored grain, as the wheat was still growing. Tough times, but the wheat would soon grow. It was all a matter of time. That's all what farming was. Luck and time.
Jane was busy looking at her feet. Walking, but looking at her feet. Her lace on her boot had some how come undone. She bent down to tie it back up again, mind absent and she wasn't watching where she was going. Suddenly, a rather large masculine figure bumped right into Jane. "Oof." Jane staggered backwards as the man bumped into her. She only just managed to hold onto her apple.
