Aye sighed happily, she was in a kint, with a kind enough person who was becoming a friend, and she was traveling. She was laying back with her feet propped up, and her hands behind her head.

"Heave it up, boys, a storm is brew, there'l be no rest for you..."
She had been quietly singing for a while, half missing the Rose and half impatient to be in Dorhaven.
"...tossin' an' turnin' in th'ragged wind." She didn't care if she was a good singer or not, she had just always enjoyed singing.

The girl looked over at her companion, and smiled. She closed her eyes and leaned back again. Riding in a kint was relaxing.

"So, whats pullin' yeh teh Dorhaven?" She asked curiously.

Remilo was very happy to be leaving Old Rose Harbor. He enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the city, but it was nothing compared to the beautiful forest of Dorhaven. There was something almost magical in plants that Remilo never felt from anything else. That is why he had always kept plants in his kint. He looked up at the sun peaking through the clouds. "I bet you like it this dry, don't ya?" Remilo said to his kenser on this unusually dry Loshis day. Uni grunted, and was clearly happy to not be rained upon.

Remilo found little Aye's singing amusing. She was so carefree. she stopped singing, and said



"Eh," Remilo said, stopping for a moment to ponder why he was traveling. "Well I guess it's a couple of reasons." He had known the he was going to be traveling out of Old Rose Harbor when he met Aye, but he wasn't sure where he was headed. "I enjoy traveling, and I am getting low on paintings, people buy my Wraithwine Wood paintings more than anything else I paint. But mainly I want someone-" Remilo paused again before completing his sentence "I want someone who can help me improve my magic, and teach me more about plants."

"Hmm.." She seemed to think about his words for a moment before speaking again. "Ive been thinkin' its about time I learn magic, too." She grew silent again, remembering that day in Old Rose when she had been easily tricked. Some kov with a weird hat had cast a spell, some fiery sparks in the air, and ruined his hat. She still didn't know the name of the spell, but ever since then she had wanted to learn magic.

"Well, in Dorhaven there're plen'y tekaa, most my fami," she grinned, "the Yellow Eye. They c'n help yeh learn magic, I'm goin' teh ask fer help myself." She pointed at her chest with her thumb. "Course i also want teh see th'Circus..." She grew silent, remembering her past and dreaming about the circus. "Wonder what they do in a circus." She thought to herself.

Then the girl looked back up at her new friend, grinning some more and seeming curious. "C'n I see some of yer paintin's?" she asked excitedly, wondering what they look like.

Remilo listened to Aye talking about the magic users in Dorhaven, growing hopeful that he would find someone to teach him.



"Eh? Yea sure." Remilo said with a smile, surprised at the sudden change in topic. In the corner of his caravan there were five paintings and two blank canvases covered by a small sheet. "I'm getting kind of low, but here are a couple. I bought some more canvases in the harbor." The paintings that he had left were mostly city scenes which didn't sell much in Old Rose, and one small one that had two red whice flying in a cloudy sky.

She grinned and climbed into the back of the kint, stepping carefully onto the floor. She looked around and Finally saw the paintings off in the corner. She snapped up, "AHA!", she thought. She grabbed one carefully, holding it up to the light.

"Wo chet, kov, these're benny!" The girl called over her shoulder. She looked at each one, surprised at how pretty they were. "How do yeh get 'em teh look so good?" she asked curiously.

Remilo chuckled and said "Practice." He though of the stuff he drew as a child and how horrible it was, before he started to draw constantly and eventually he improved. Although he was far from the talent of more experienced artists, Remilo was happy he was at least at the stage where he could sell his paintings, and was happy to be improving. "Patience is also important. I can't tell you how many paintings I want to smash, but with patience I can fix them; usually."

Remilo looked over Aye's shoulder as she looked at the different paintings. Then thinking she might feel uncomfortable, he went and checked on Uni. The kenser was fine, but had started to veer off of the path, so Remilo pulled the reins, and Uni walked back to the left. Remilo observed their surroundings. A few hundred feet ahead, the road split into two, with the left path more worn. He knew that this path would bring them to The bridge to Vienda in several hours. However he took the right road, which gently curved through a field around the Wraithwine Wood, and would bring them to Dorhaven in less than a day. "Almost there boch;" Remilo called to Aye, "less than a day til we arrive."

Aye nodded, she had always been told to practice things. "Practice that stitch.", or "Practice cutting those vegetables", or "Really, ye chen practice wearin' shoes when you travel, you'll cut your feet!" She chuckled at the memories, and smiled fondly.

"Oes, sometimes yeh jus' cant get somethin' teh be as good as yeh want.", she called over her shoulder, tracing the wings of the whice in the painting.

She gasped and jumped up, placing the paintings carefully down before she rushed back up to the front of the kint. "Thats benny, kov! i cant wait!" She said excitedly, jumping up and down slightly a few times. She climbed back up on it, and watched as they took the right fork in the road. "Where does that one go?" The girl asked curiously.

"That way's to Vienda boch," Remilo said "but we can't go there. Spokes are banned from the city." Remilo knew that he had relatives in the city, his mom's brother lived their with his wife and children. His uncle was a painter, like him, and Remilo's mother had once showed him a picture of her family painted by him. Remilo had thought it funny to see a woman and her children in traditional Mugrobi clothing, while her husband stood there as a fully Anaxi wick, with four black isosceles triangles pointing out from his nose.

Recalling this memory made Remilo nostalgic, and he softly laid his hand on the blue poniard at his side, the only possession he had that reminded him of his parents, and sighed. A slight depression in the road brought Remilo back to the preset, and he looked around, hoping that Aye didn't think he was depressed.

"Hmm...", Aye now wanted to get into the city. Vienda, huh? Spokes were banned from the city? She had maybe heard something about that, the city sounded familiar, perhaps she had visited there with someone in her tribe. She wondered if her memory was right, or if spokes had always been banned.

The girl looked over at Remilo to ask questions, funny how answers to one question seemed to always lead to a very large number of other questions, and saw him looking sad. He looked like he was lost in memories of his own, maybe bad ones, maybe not. She was going to keep quiet just in case he didn't want to talk about it, even though the curiosity was visible on her face, when she noticed his hand on the dagger at his side.

It was pretty, from what she could see of it, and she wanted to know more about it. "Eh, where did yeh get that? Did yeh make it?". She laid her finger on the handle as she pointed at it, in that way that children always do. They seemed to think you had no idea what they meant, until they touched what they were talking about. She looked back at him, finger still on the weapon, as if she wanted to be sure he was looking.

Taking Aye's touch to mean that she wanted to examine the poniard, Remilo unsheathed it and held it in his right hand, while running his left index finger down the blue engraving along the side closest to him. He lowered the blue hilted weapon so Aye could get a better view. Not particularly wanting to explain his past Remilo simply stated "It was my fathers. I do not know where he got it." and nothing more.

She stared wide eyed at the weapon, admiring the shininess. She almost flinched at the sound of his voice, he sounded like he didn't want to say anymore. She frowned and sat back, glancing at the road ahead of them.

"Ah its, its benny.", she gave a small smile. "Do you... ah... never mind, kov.", she didn't want to ask more questions, it might be a bad idea. "You ever eaten cake?" She ask, trying to cheerfully change the subject, maybe get Rem happy again.

Remilo immediately felt bad about snapping at Aye. He could tell in her voice that she was a little frightened, and he hadn't meant to do that. You're such and idiot sometimes Remilo. He thought to himself No. Stop. Stay positive. He took several deep breaths with his eyes closed, and afterwords had calmed down some.His introversion ended when Aye cheerfully asked



Surprised but grateful for a change of subject Remilo laughed a little and then said "Yea, not recently, but I love it with the fresh berries on top." Mmm. Sweet cake with moist and slightly sweet, slightly sour bright red berries to cut the sweetness.

She grinned at his smile, now that was more like it. "a'right,", she thought, "no more questions'bout 'is weapons, his fami either.." She nodded.

"Berries!" She yelled, oh how she loved berries, and cake, and when you mixed them together.... Her mouth watered just thinking about it. Oh great, nice job, Aye, now your hungry.... And there wasn't cake around for miles, probably.

"I love berries, and frosting! mmm, Ever had cake with syrup, er honey on top? Pancakes even!", she loved pancakes too, in fact, it was becoming obvious that little Aye loved all food.

Remilo laughed. Aye was hilarious. "I never really liked pancakes actually. I don't know why. Although honey and cake are always a classic. But they're kind of heavy ya know?" They hit a hole in the road large enough to stop the caravan. "Clock!" Remilo said. He jumped off his kint, and checked to make sure Uni was okay, once convinced that his kenser was fine, he checked to see if any of the wheels or axles had broken. Everything seemed to be fine, except that one wheel was stuck in the hole. He went over to the back, and started to push. The wheel almost left the hole, but fell back in. "Uhg." Remilo grunted as the kint slid back into him. "Hmm. We seem to have a problem."

Aye nodded at Remilo, though she had never met anyone who didn't like pancakes, she knew that people liked different things. Like one day a long time ago she had offered a girl in the tribe something she had made, she didn't even remember what it was now, and the girl hadn't wanted it. She had said she didn't like that kind of food. Aye later thought that she was a bad cook, but other people seemed to like it, so she shrugged it off.

"Oes, they can be, but sometimes that's wha--" She was flung forward in her seat, and had to kick out her feet against the boards in order to stay put. Aye rubbed the side of her head as she looked down at the pothole, and squinted at it. Where had that come from?

The girl hopped down after Remilo, and walked around to the hole. She stared at it a moment, and then stepped in it. It was deep. "Wo chet!" she said, wide eyed.

"What coulda made that?" She pointed at the hole, and then noticed her friend pushing on the kint. She walked around, and started pushing on it just as Remilo stopped pushing it. When it fell back on him she cringed and turned her face away, her nose breaking, again, would not be good. "Ooof!" She sighed and backed away from it. "Maybe if we get Uni teh pull it an' we push it?"

"Yea" said Remilo looking down at the hole, "you get back up in me kint and get Uni to start, and I'll push." He looked down at the hole, trying to guess what had made it. "I think it may be a rabbit hole. It was to close to the surface of the dirt and caved in." and sure enough, a small brown rabbit squeezed through the hole, and hopped away.

"A'right!", She called over her shoulder. She jumped at the site of the rabbit, and then giggled. So that had been the reason for their sudden stop. She watched it hop away, and then threw a leg up into the kint. She stood up, and then scrambled up onto the bench.

She grabbed the reins and held them, "Ready?", she made sure she heard an answer before flicking them and trying to get Uni to move. Whether or not that answer meant Remilo was ready, she didn't know. All the girl really heard was her new friends voice.

"Oes, I'm ready." Remilo called out in response to Aye's question. She flicked the reigns and Uni the kenser started to pull while Remilo pushed.

"Almost-" he said as the wheel was almost out of the hole "Almost got it." the wheel finally made it out of the hole, and the caravan rolled forward suddenly. "Uhg!" Remilo said as he fell into the dust. He jumped up with a smile and brushed himself off. Good thing it isn't raining. he thought as he ran ahead and jumped aboard his kint.

The kint lurched forward and kept moving, dirt crunching under its wheels. Aye laughed out loud and shook her head, feeling the wind in her hair. They may or may not have been going very fast, but there was definitely wind.

She turned and grinned at Rem as he Jumped into the kint, and held out the reins to him. "Well, kov , that wasn't too hard!", she said jokingly. It hadn't been much work for her, but Remilo had been pushing the kint, after all.

She brushed hair out of her face, (her bangs kept getting into her mouth, it was about time for a haircut) and looked out ahead of them. She gasped and wildly pointed toward what looked like a far away town. "Is that it?!", she asked loudly. The girl seemed to be very excited.

"Is that Dorhaven?!"

Remilo looked into the distance, spying the edge of the town of Dorhaven. The most beautiful place in the world. Remilo had been away from Dorhaven for far too long, and was glad to be back once again.

"Oes Aye. That be Dorhaven."

Remilo had never in his past visits make a friend of a permanent Dorhaven resident. He had always traveled there with other Yellow Eyes, and had escaped to the forest to paint during the day just for some time alone. But now he was independent, and could do whatever he wanted. Maybe he would meet a master who could teach him magic. Or maybe he would meet someone special. It was impossible to tell.

She blinked at him for a moment, and then yelled and practically danced out of the kint. She had to grab her seat to keep from falling off, but she just couldn’t hold still, she was so excited!

She "woo hoo'd" and laughed, falling back into her seat and then jumping right back up again.

"Mujo ma mujo ma!" she yelled at Remilo, "It's so nice of you to take me here like that!" she smiled.

Then she turned back to watch the city get closer... and closer... And she waited, and waited. Aye frowned and turned back to Rem.

"How... how long do yeh think it’ll take us to get there?" She pointed at the city. It didn’t seem like they were getting there too quickly to her.

Remilo burst out laughing at Aye's shouts of joy. He hadn't seen anyone this excited since the last wick festival. But he couldn't blame her, Dorhaven was a great place.



"No problem boch," Remilo said "I wanted to go here too."



Remilo had never been good at approximating length, so he wasn't sure exactly how far they were from Dorhaven. "Umm," Remilo started to say, but then he noticed a life size carving of a woman in the side of a tree, which he recognized.

"You see that tree up there with the woman carved in it?" Remilo asked pointing ahead, "Well after we pass that tree it'll take about an hour."

She looked at the carving and pouted. An hour was entirely too long. But then she looked closer at the carving, and found that it was beautiful. How had people gotten it into the tree like that with so many details? How long had carving it taken? Why was it even there? But she bit down on these questions, and settled on leaning back and singing again.

"Aye, no man, nor wick, nor gollie
is safe from Charlie’s folly."

She had heard the song in Old Rose, from a friend she had met in The Black Dove. She liked the song, when she looked back and remembered Charlie, it went perfectly. The way he had attacked Henri like that, of course the poor boy had made a song.

She looked over at Remilo again, she wasn’t sure what to say now, and she had asked plenty of questions... "Where did yeh get yer tattoo?" She pointed to the triangle under his eye. She was interested in tattoos; she herself had just gotten one.

Remilo reached up and rubbed the black triangle under his right eye. After he had gotten it, he thought it was remarkable how it just felt like his skin, he could only tell where it was by looking in a glass. Now however he had memorized its location, and outlined the triangle with his finger.

"I got this In Old Rose when I was about your age." Remilo told Aye. "I have always had this umm, obsession with triangles. I think they are the most magical geometric shape, and so decided to put one on my face." He looked down at his passanger and asked "How about you, why'd ya get your tattoos?"

"Hmm..." the girl thought about his tattoo. An obsession with triangles? Well that made sense to her. Maybe she had an obsession with circles? She pursed her lips and then smiled.

"Me? I got mine 'cause I like green. An' my babysitter from Dorhaven had these, like, these dots under her eyes." she smiled at the memory. "I always liked 'em, they're pretty. So anyway, I liked the dots and the green, an' where they were." she placed a finger over one of the circles, to show where.

"I hope I get teh see 'er, I don' know if she'd have gone off anywhere since I’ve been gone." she frowned a little.

She sat up suddenly, remembering she had just gotten a new tattoo, too. She grinned and pointed at it, "An' this," She poked her shoulder, which was decorated with a ship and the ocean and some fish in the water. "I got 'cause it reminds me of the ocean, which makes me think o' pirates. I wanna be a pirate one day, yeh know." She grinned wider.
