Post Returning home 7th of Intas near-midnight.
His body ached as he finally reached the city gates. His mount a Chroven that had been with him since his first days of training panted after being ridden for long.
"I'm sorry old friend." He said quietly giving the beast a pat as it crossed through the gates. "We are home though, at long last we are home."
With a sigh memories flooded back of screaming at him about his personal choice of not accepting magic of joining the Seventen and traveling to lands far and wide.
"we'll change this world my old friend. We will make a name of me yet." As he said this he dismounted. Leading the Chroven through the city he made his way to the seventen's local headquarters. He already was itching for a fight. It was something about these cities, they always made him violent and ready for a fight.
He held back the urge though. He had bigger plans to enact. Plans were to be set into play soon and hopefully would bring him grand fruits when they turned ripe. Until then he was the Seventen's faithful dog kept on a tight leash and watched at every turn by those who feared them.
He had heard rumors of a likeminded man known as Dom. Another Seventen that sought a similar goals to his own. Rumor had it he still worked for them. If he was lucky perhaps someone within would know of his whereabouts.
As he dismounted Alstair Breathed in the night savoring the scents of civilization which for so long had seemed beyond his grasp for the rest of his days and now only by luck had been returned to him.
((Hi, I'm a new player and was wondering if this proper post format?))

((Hi Alstair, good to see you posting already! Generally, at least for first posts, we like for players to write a bit more. Tell us why you're there, where you have been, what you're feeling, etc. That gives us something to go off of. Thanks :) ))

The Seventen HQ was an enormous, one-story building on the west side of the Palace walls. As Alstair no doubt knew, the Seventen used the flat roof for practicing; at any other time of day, he would see several squadrons lined up on the roof, blowing spell after spell towards each other and blocking with deft moves designed to expedite their casting. Beneath the ground floor, he knew there would be room after room of underground basements designed for martial training - they practiced magic on the roof, it was said, because if anything exploded there wouldn't be any permanent damage to the building.

The double doors were before him, vast and looming and intimidating.

Without fear Alstair pushed open a door and entered the grand structure. The smells of hard work dust filled his nostrils as he looked to see if there was anyone within what he hoped was still a reception area after all these years.
Nostalgia flooded him as he walked across the stone floors, each step echoing through the entrance plaza. He would need to rouse one of the passives to find him a room and a stable for his mount there was no doubt of that he sadly would have to start his search on the 'morrow at the rate he was going and just out of the fact he was no superman.

Alstair could feel the ancient spell protecting the door recognize his field and allow him entrance, but the tremor he felt as he walked past the outer walls was powerful. Clearly, had he been an intruder or someone unknown to the Seventen, he would have had a far different result from the door.

The hallway before him was vast and deserted; the Seventen were all asleep in their barracks. His footsteps echoed emptily in the intense silence.

A glass-covered sign on the empty reception desk read, "Closed - come again at dawn." A bench beside the desk could be seen in the dim light; Alstair could see a hunched male figure asleep in a sitting position, presumably waiting to be let into his room as well.

With a heavy sigh Alstair made to leave the great hall. With purposed strides he returned to his Chroven mount and led it deeper into the city. If he had any luck there should at least be a few taverns still willing to take him in at this time of night. HE led his great beast through deserted street after street searching for any sign of life amongst the sleeping buildings.

Near the border between the Dives and Uptown Vienda, Alstair could see lights flickering still in the windows of the Paper Tiger. Though it was more popular as a bar, Madame Olive still had rooms for rent, and the place didn't look as though it was closed yet.

Praising the gods alstair strode towards the bar. As he reached the Paper Tiger he tied his mount to one of the nearby posts for such matters and entered the the establishment. No doubt crowded even at this late hour he would cause a stir with his presence. Inside it was a cozy little establishment filled with patrons still trying to drown away the woes of the day. He unerringly went to the bar counter and tried to get to get the bartender's attention.
"Madame I am in need of room on this late night. Might you be willing to spare one for a worn down traveler?"

((The barkeeper's a man tonight, Fion's busy in another thread))

Archibald was extremely busy closing up for the night; his neurotic cleanliness was apparent by the gleaming bar and the shining crystal glasses and bottles, the immaculate floor, and the harried look on his face. At the moment Alstair entered the Paper Tiger, he had just begun to shoo the few remaining patrons out the door.

He cringed as he heard Alstair's question. Technically, the Paper Tiger did have rooms...but it was such a bother renting...

"Yes, sir, indeed we do," he said, wearily, noting the man's Seventen badge and deciding it wasn't worth it to argue. "It's a concord a night, up front. But...er...for a brave member of our local law enforcement, of course, it's free of charge..." He bowed stiffly. Archibald had no love for the galdori, but he knew who paid his salary, and he also knew what kind of behavior kept him in the workforce and what kind would get him fired at a moment's notice.

Handing Alstair his room key, he showed him the door to the loft. The room was small, but cozy; the room, though a bit dusty from many weeks without use, was neat and spartan. A small window overlooked the city, and Alstair could see the Royal Palace and the Seventen HQ as well as the glorious dome of the Aeterna Theatre.

"Will that be all, sir?" inquired the bartender, raising an eyebrow.

"the room is plenty." Alstair replied. "But there must be some way n which I can repay you? Perhaps you need a hand in the affairs here?" His said politely. He knew it would seem strange to innkeeper but, if he could win this one man others would be sure follow. This was by no means a mere hole in the wall he could tell by simply looking at the pristine nature of the establishment that it held some level prestige within the city and winning over the owners here and now could prove useful down the road.

"Er..." said Archibald, not entirely sure what the man meant. "Oh, no, sir, not necessary. Company policy, you know. Seventen eat, drink and stay free. Always been that way. No trouble at all."

Stammering, he attempted to bow courteously and leave before he said something stupid. Madame Olive had been furious about Fion's treatment of Dom Leon; he didn't want to stoke the fire.

"Oh no I insist. You put me up for nothing and that must truly be bothersome and costly even in such a fine establishment such as this. If you will not have me work then I must insist upon at least paying you for the night. I cannot abide by freeloading especially if it is myself. I do not put myself above my fellow citizens like so many Seventen are prone to do." He said pleasantly. He knew he was laying it on thick but, it was also an issue of pride now. He had been refused this was something very few had ever done to him and gotten away with it.

The barkeep was torn by the prospect of getting paid for a night's work and the prospect of getting fired for getting paid for a night's work.

"Er...if sir insists," he said, approaching cautiously. "One concord, or...whatever you feel like paying?"

"If sir wishes I happily give you one Concord and keep the transaction between us. Also, should you need a friend in high places just call upon me and I will more than happily oblige." Alstair said sliding one of his three Concords to the man over the counter a devilish smile upon his face. Loyalty knew no price in his mind.

Blown away by Alstair's manner, but typically quite suspicious of any galdori kindness, Archibald took the concord and slipped it discreetly into his pocket. "Very good sir," he said, employing his five-star butler training. He bowed. "There is a complimentary breakfast when you wake. Ring if you need anything."

He closed the door with barely a click, and hurried downstairs before the man changed his mind.

Alastair undressed and prepared for bed. He already was seeing major obstacles in his path. He needed the humans on his side if he was to have any success. But, as a galdori that would be next to impossible. He needed to determine a way around this. He thought as he reclined on the soft mattress a pleasant change the bedroll he normally would have been on.
He needed someone or someway to appeal to the Humans. He would mull over this chewing at it like a dog upon a bone for the time. In the near term however his next move was obvious. Track down this mysterious Dom and sway him to his Alstair's side. He also needed to rise in the ranks...an easy matter for one such as himself especially once he had acquired allies in high places.
The thoughts of conquest set a smile to Alstair's fair face as he drifted off into sleep for the night.
